TL;DR: apparently some people are pissed about the name for Satchel's Flashback X4 TonePrint (which was announced over a year ago, btw) and decided to make a petition complaining about it today.


Thoughts?

Is it a good move to associate your brand with Steel Panther? Probably not, unless your brand is a chain of 24 hour STD test clinics / spandex apparel superstores / both.
Edit: im listening to Japanese Breakfast for the first time right now. Not sure who sounds more like a tongue in cheek retro joke band, this or Steel Panther.

Is it offensive to me, personally? No.

Do I understand how it could be offensive? Absolutely.

Is it a stupid thing for TC to be involved in? Totally - Fender says 50% of young guitar buyers are women and the percentage of young guitar-rock bands prominently featuring women seems even higher than that. The days of advertising gear with tits is past (culturally and in terms of business wisdom).

Is it in the top 1000 things that would be on my list of bullshit to tackle? Honestly, no, but it's not like the people who are starting petitions like this are dedicating their lives to it. Pretty sure Japanese Breakfast's practice schedule isn't going to revolve around the petition.

I get the joke, but it's a super dumbass move on TC's part.

Also I like Japanese Breakfast. Def some good jams on that record.

I'm happy to sign that petition. It's a stupid joke, and it alienates women for a cheap punchline. I will happily help steer TC off that course.

Personally IDGAF but it's incredibly boneheaded on TCE's part. Then again when you work with Steel Panther you know what you get yourself into.

Do I care? No.

I subscribe to the belief that people make a choice to be offended, either consciously or subconsciously.
