"When we see the Earth from space, we see ourselves as a whole.
We see the unity, but not the divisions.
One planet, one human race.
We are here together and we need to live together with tolerance and respect.
Our only boundaries are the way we see ourselves, the only borders the way we see each other.
We must become global citizens.
Our voices are important.
We give our elected officials their power, but we can take it away.
We are all time travelers, traveling together into the future.
But let us make that future a place we want to visit.
Be brave.
Be determined.
Overcome the odds.
It can be done."

Huffington Post reporter Ashley Feinberg also recalled his sense of humor.
"One of my favorite things about Stephen Hawking is that he was mean to all the right people," she posted, along with text recounting how he would "enjoy running over the toes of people he didn't like" with his wheelchair, including an anecdote of allegedly doing exactly that to Prince Charles.
Citing a biography of the scientist, the passage added that "one of Hawking's regrets in life was not having an opportunity to run over (former British Prime Minister) Margaret Thatcher's toes."

I saw this last night and the fact he doubled his life expectancy while bringing science into the mainstream and making huge strides is truly inspirational. We lost one of the good ones.

when i read this online it made me immediately feel there was a huge hole in humanity, one that wouldn't probably ever be replaced or filled in my lifetime... don't know how to describe it... he was such bright star in such a dark and vast void. i just feel thankful to have lived during a time where someone like him was alive and see the impact he has had on everyone. The quote you stated is one of my favorites of his too D.o.S.

RIP.
He may not have written as well as Feynman, and some of his theories have been debunked or will be, but the overall package - the humour, the ability to communicate crazy hard concepts without dumbing stuff down, and his genius... what a dude.
