Hoodie/jacket recommendations

Since Ohio's finally getting real winter weather for once, it seems as though it's time for me to invest some new jackets beyond my dad's old USMC hoodie (which I don't like to wear publicly, but am often forced to because of necessity) and my insanely heavy pea coat.
I've been looking at maybe investing in a hoodie from American Giant, and I'm also interested in getting a bomber jacket or similar, but I really have no idea what I should be looking for.
Also, I'm 6'1" and prefer 2/3XL sized coats.
Thoughts?

I am curious if the american giant stuff is worth the price.
I am a cardigan and vest guy when it is not too cold in CNY (was running -10 last week which means real winter coat)
If I were going to buy a hoodie in the american giant price range I would probably look at something from cotopaxi, they are super cool to deal with and make very rugged gear

89 bucks for a fucking hoodie? Fuck that shit man.
Shit doesn't even look warm.
I like to buy whatever is on sale. A hoodie is a hoodie IMO.

I really like mine. I'm afraid of spilling something on it, so I want another. But I'm afraid of spilling something on that too so I want two more.
@jrfox - Columbia and North Face have some pretty serious 'shells'. This adds to what Vid said about layers. Use shirts and hoodies to warm up but get a decent shell for waterproofing.

T-Shirt / Wadded up newspaper / Flannel Shirt (/ Windbreaker if raining or snowing)
You can substitute a plastic party tablecloth for the windbreaker (just cut/tear a hole somewhere near the middle) and they come in festive colors at the Dollar Tree.

Alternative Apparel makes cozy hoodies. Also Champion are nothing to sneeze at if you're looking for a cheapie.

Got myself my first Carhartt duck jacket this year. Combined with a basic hoodie from Target and Ive been pretty comfy so far this winter.
The advice about Carhartt sizing is to buy a size down. I was hesitant but it proved to be correct. I'm usually
XL but right on the verge of XXL. Their jacket fits me perfectly in large.
