I’ve never been one to keep up with the latest system, so, I thought it’s be cool to have a thread dedicated to talking about vintage video games and whatnot!
I just got a fancy, new raspberry pi based system and I’m really excited to play Mother III and FFVII (the nes rom version). Is anyone else interested in this stuff or is it just me? What are you guys playing and how do you roll?

Lately we've been using our Retropie for multiplayer Crash Team Racing. It's a shame that N64 emulation is still garbage, my wife really likes Mario Party but it crashes all the time, and multiplayer Mario Kart 64 is a no-go. I mostly use it for SNES/Genesis/GBA/PS1 nostalgia: Ninja Gaiden, Einhander, Mother 3, Mega Man Zero, Contra Hard Corps, etc..

Nice!! This is my first time using the pi3, so, I was looking forward to actually playing some n64 stuff. But I already crashed it trying to run Shadows of the Empire
How’s Einhander? What kind of retopie setup are you using? This is what I just got today:

I tried starting a retro gaming specific thread, in 2013 but it never took off
viewtopic.php?f=42&t=33000
Fav console/libraries: NES, GEN, SNES, NEO GEO, TG16, GB/GBC/GBA, PS, PS2, GC+GBP, DS.
Nxt week I plan to buy a gscart switch for my rgb-modded consoles [currently SNES & PS].
I have a Multisync NEC monitor and a PVM but my setup is currently in pieces, only thing I have connected is a GC+GBP.
Reckon listed some gr8 games. I'm all about 16bit jrpg, Squaresoft's golden era. Since starting that other thread I've replayed through FFIV, SoM, FFV, FFVI, CT, SoE & SMRPG. Currently not playing anything, most recently, over the summer it had been Aria of Sorrow. Lately I've been thinking about resuming a patched rom of FF3 which removes the 'frenzy' status of Mog Dances and Gau Rages so they can use a new one each turn, a fun mechanic to mess with and exploit.

Nothing fancy, just the Pi 3 in
this case, plugged into our TV. I do have it overclocked to run N64 games a little better, but the ones I want to play crash too often to even bother.
Einhander's great, one of my favorite shmups. Every PS1 game I've tried has run flawlessly.

Speaking of rom hacks, I think I've got FFVI Brave New World installed, but haven't played it yet.

I had a vague memory of a previous thread on this topic, but I though it’d be nice to make a new one

What do you use to play those games? Do you have a crazy setup with all those consoles, or are you running emulators? (if it’s the former, I’d love to see pics)
I’ve used retropie a ton in the past, but the new thing I got came with recalbox preinstalled. It has roughly the same UI as retropie (it still uses emulationstation and retroarch), but the setup for extra controllers/updates/etc. is much simpler. The downside is you have to connect to it as an external drive in order to put new games on it and the user base doesn’t seem as big as retropie’s.
That’s good to know, Reckon Luck. I’m looking forward to exploring all the PS1 games I never got the chance to play growing up, so, I’ll check that one out. How do you handle games with multiple discs? I haven’t figured out how to do that yet...

I haven't messed with any multi-disc games yet, but I'm sure there's a way to make them work.

The one that I have is Dino Crisis, but the download I found for it already had a .cue file. And I have no idea how to adapt that .cue file to any other games.

Anyone here used to play Subspace? It was a top-down, 2D MMO freeware game in the late 90s. There were some private servers up until just 4-5 years ago. I loved that game.

I still have my PS1 .. still works .. love them final fantasy tactics.
Any PI users recommend a good wireless usb vintage style game paddle ? I found one that looks a lot like the SNES paddle with 2 trigger bumpers and 2 added analog sticks as well. Looks dece.

I bought a Sega Genesis some time ago, still haven't used it a lot, but I have in mind to get some classic games (UMK3 come over here!) to do the summer here a little less depressing. Recommendations are welcome.
