Or Whisky, whatever you prefer.

Anyone else here who enjoys a good dram? Post up your favorites, what you've got open, what you're chasing, what you hate, and so on.

I'll start. Primarily a bourbon enthusiast, though I don't discriminate. I know better than to go chasing really expensive bottles of whiskey (BTAC, I'm looking at you), I need that money for gear! Currently drinking a couple fantastic open bottles of Weller 12 and Rhetoric 21. Waiting to open a bottle of High West Midwinter's Night Dram once I finish those. I like most of Buffalo Trace's products across the board, EH Taylor, Blantons, Rock Hill Farms, etc. Shit I don't like? Super peat-y scotches, most Jim Beam products (yes, even Bookers), cheap blends like JW Red Label...

What your babyboy here is drinking tonight:

It's my go-to on-a-budget liquor.

Buuuuut, I like the Jim Beam when it comes to "at the bar" shots.

Lately (when I have more disposable income), I've been digging on Wild Turkey/their 101 and most importantly Russel's Reserve. It's good.

I'd be curious how those among us drink their whiskey. I'm into the traditional Old Fashioned method: sugar cube, bitters, whiskey with ice mixed in and an orange peel squeezed for *le essential oils* and aroma. I bet there are going to be some snoots now who talk about how even ice is a crime. Some of us have class, ok!

Citywide Special = a shot of Jim Beam + a can of PBR :animal:

Nice. Like 90% of the bars on my street the usually on-special shot is Tullamore D.E.W. It's awful and I hate it. And I'm someone who like Old Thompson, but Tully is gross. It's like Jameson except every bottle is a bad one.

There's one bar with a $5 special called the "Prix Fix" that's a shot of Tully (or it might be some other whisky, I forget), a PBR and a camel filter.

I really started to get into Bourbon about 2 years ago after having Scotch Whisky for ages, it just sucks that it gets really costly in Aus and I don't want to spend $80+ bucks on a bottle of Knob Creek. For some reason, Blantons isn't overpriced and I noticed that Russells Reserve has changed recently and haven't enjoyed it as much. I don't mind Jim Beam Black if the price is okay.

Its too bad you can't get EC 12 anymore. I stockpiled a few bottles. The new NAS stuff just isn't the same.

I'm mostly more of a scotch person, I really like some bourbon I've tried but don't know anything about what's good and there isn't often much selection in the UK.

Islay whiskies tend to be my favourites, Laphroaig and Caol Ila are particularly good.

My friend got me a bottle of Hibiki Suntory 17 for my birthday last year and I've been enjoying that a lot. First (and still only) Japanese whiskey I've tried and I was really impressed by it. Will have to do some more exploring of Japanese whiskey when that bottle runs out.

Not drinking much bourbon these days.
My friend had some Jack Daniels Single Barrel "Barrel Proof" that was great. Like 130 proof, I think? Best JD hooch I've tried.

 I'm a bit of a hoarder.

For a while the Lagavulin 16 and the Dalwhinnie 15 were my gotos at home. These days it's the 18 y/o Highland Park or Macallan, really the two finest pours out there. Trying to not buy anything else until I've worked my way through a reasonable part of the current collection, but the next purchase is definitely going to be the Oban 14. I've never had a bottle at home, but the Oban tends to show up on menus as the pricey/fancy/oddball option, is a welcome alternative to the flat palate of the usual 12 or 15 y/o Glen suspects, and never fails to impress me.

Ok. I'm a hoarder and a snob.

I don't drink much, but I've decided I could be a low rent bourbon snob and ran with it. I couldn't do scotch, I was convinced to buy a bottle of Laphroig and my old man fed me a bunch of fancy ones.. they all sorta taste like dirt. :)

But, bourbons, I can do. Though I actually couldn't tell you a top shelf brand I prefer, I drink them too infrequently to really develop a taste. I have fond memories of Knob Creek, so if I had to go big that's as far as I get.

I usually stick with midshelf stuff, Wild Turkey 101 or when I can find it, Eagle Rare Single Barrel which for $26 will compete with all the nicest stuff I've sampled. If I'm poor, it's Evan Willlams. It's cheap enough and yet still good enough.

But Eagle Rare, above all, is my jam. I have only one state store (PA .gov controls liquor here) that carries it around me.
