Even though it was facetious, being able to text UC at 3 in the morning to ask if I could stay on his couch starting tomorrow (because, you know, electoral unpleasantness) and getting "YES" back in response within 30 seconds was one of the nicest things I'm liable to experience today.

My grandparents fled the Netherlands in the 40's, and I don't think my grandfather ever forgave himself. Maybe I should take the fam back. You know, to, uh, retrace our roots.
