My buddy who does noise stuff just picked up an 8x8 matrix mixer and it's dope. Seriously expanded what he is doing so much. I forget which brand it is or anything though. I'll ask him and report back

lmao

matrix mixers rule. active, no doubt, or else you'll probably struggle with volume issues

Aggressive, all the way.

Really though, unless your bank of input sources are similar in range you're going to fight with a passive.

oooooh yeah, ever since I played with virtual matrixes in Audiomulch I knew that one day, one glorius day, I'll have one IRL...
the thing is that both mixers & FX are just a mouseclick away in the box.
OK, they're also a mouseclick away on the internet, but those cost MONEY and take DAYS to ship....

good to know a real one should be active...
Is that something complicated/expensive to do, or would it be a good My-First-Soldering-Lesson?

Yeah, sorry. I changed it based on this post: viewtopic.php?f=42&t=54075&start=143

Bothers me too, a little bit, I'll probably wimp out and change it back or something soon. :picard:

There's a lot of repetition is all, I would recommend getting a solid build or two under your belt first - nothing sucks more than fixing the same mistake 8 or 16 times..

I just bought one of the XIWI passive 4x4 matrix mixers. It's passive, but I'm hoping that's okay since I'd only be running pedals through it. I'm already looking into an active and bigger one now, though. Is there anything that's reasonably priced out there? Should be easy enough to build one, though...

at least you'd be really good at fixing it the 16th time.
 that's both very solid advice, thank you! :thumb:

I've been trying to get a builder to make me a pedal version of the Moog 984 for years. Schematics available, basically a 4x4 matrix mixer with active moog bass and treble boosts/cuts per channel and a master out. Look at this sex:

I'm right here waiting :) ..but would suggest an Op Amp based implementation!

vidret wrote:so this and a patchulator then  could a large matrix mixer take the place of the patchulator? I'm thinking probably not, because it'd have to be way bigger. the patchulator is 8 ins AND outs, so basically an 8x8 would do it, right? the wiring would be weird.

just thinking about this reminds me about needing to get new cables.

am i still staying pedge for satan if i get new cables?
Probably. Also Patchulator doesn't do levels, which is the draw of a matrix mixer, no?

(I think I really want a matrix mixer but I have no idea how they work with hardware)

I put together a passive 4x4 last summer. Wiring was a pain. Nothing horrible but tedious. A big part of the problem was I was trying to put it all into an enclosure that wasn't really big enough. The end result though has been a blast... as long as the signals are similar. With different levels you will definitely be fighting it.

I still don't know what's special about a matrix mixer.
Is it just because they allow for a whole bunch of inputs to be blended together? :?:
