So now that we've all lost our fucking minds and whatever hysteric shit goes, BSL is basically gun control for dogs. So if your dog looks scary it is basically now an "Assault Pupper" and the gubmint gone make you register it and keep it muzzled in a locking concrete box and put up signs all over your house that say "Vicious dog".

Seriously?
Have they targeted and named breeds?

Sorry man, I hadn't heard that one.
My wife is type one diabetic.

Pitbulls have taken the brunt of the horseshit so far but I've heard similar rumblings about rottweilers and german shepards. I know all three are banned in most of the buildings and neighborhoods I've been looking to move recently.

I find it pretty incredible that nobody has raised the issue of owners' responsibility in all this.
I don't disagree that some dogs have the potential to be more dangerous than others, but that's all to do with the asshole that trained them.
I grew up with a German shepherd who was a total kitten.
I've seen more terriers who had a go at biting a kid.

I have a lot of friends that work in animal rescue organizations and they are losing their shit over this. I live in the "ghetto" and we have a major loose dog problem (one lady was mauled to death a few months ago) and I've been really thankful that with all talk about what to do bsl hasn't been brought up. I grew up with german shepherds and they're just the best. And my buddy's pitbull is a total kitten. The night she rescued her we were just pushing her around and making her try on clothes and the dog didn't even get annoyed, just happily took the attention.
The scariest dog moment I've had was on the way home from the bar one night on my bike a golden retriever started chasing me and kept up with me for 3 blocks trying to take a chunk out of my leg. Bet they won't be on those lists.

Man, I've seen some dumb as fuck retrievers. That shit about them being kind and easy to train is either a myth or an overgeneralisation.
But again, its owners and they way the dog has been raised and trained.

I just made a sad guy post on ig about this. Montreal just passed a "pitbull" ban today. Meaning basically dogs that look a certain way in shelters or picked up as strays will be killed because of their appearance. People who own dogs that look like a "pitbull" can have their dogs seized and killed unless they're able to jump through some hoops and pay some fees. People and dogs who make it through those hoops will be subject to much stricter regulations than other dogs, regardless of the dog's behavior, strictly because of it's appearance. I don't live in Montreal, but I have a "pitbull". She's the sweetest dog ever. Loves people, children, dogs, cats, birds, insects. It breaks my heart that dogs like her are being killed for no other reason than their appearance. And it's fucking stupid. It's not the fucking breed. Or the appearance of a "breed type". Most "pitbulls" are mutts. And many of them are great dogs. Some of them are raised horribly and suffer because of it. Or have behavioral problems because of it. Some don't. My dog is a rescue who came from awful conditions and she was a total sweetheart from the get go. Some dogs just don't do well with other dogs, or aren't good with people. Dogs are unique as individuals. Breed bans make no sense. Dog owners should be responsible for knowing their dogs and protecting from situations that will be a problem. I've had a dog that wasn't good with people and have another dog now that isn't good with dogs, but god damn if my "pitbull" isn't just the best with everything.

Dang those other posts came outta nowhere & now I feel sad knowing what the thread is actually about.
Problem domesticated animals can be traced back to shady humans. Some particularly foolish individuals breed dogs for money with a high degree of inbreeding, producing nervous animals with chronic health issues, both mental and physical. Before the animal even has a chance to be abused or neglected it's already likely to become a statistic
Working breeds and other desirable make-you-think-twice-about-breaking-in doggies seem most likely to suffer at the hands of awful people. It's not the breed it's the breeders.

Pits have been banned in Kansas for as long as I can remember. I don't know much about their temperament because I've never owned one and the people that do own them are hush hush about it. I have read that they are more prone to randomly snapping. There are other breeds like this. Does it mean they can't be safely owned? No. It just means you have to assert dominance over your animal. I've owned and been around dogs off all sizes and I make sure they know who is boss. I've never been afraid of dogs and I don't think you ought to be.

Here's an interesting list for your viewing.
