I ordered a semi-hollow JM body from Guitar Mill recently myself, actually. Must be something in the air right now!

Yep, it's happening. I love the Bastin neck on the white body that I have, but the shit is UNREAL heavy. So I'm switching over to a semi-hollow body for some weight relief.

Going with a Saylor Body, which is 3.5 pounds. Mahogany top and Khaya body.

Not sure how I'm going to finish it. Fever606 and I had the idea of black body, black anno guard, and black pickup covers. But Toneguards' anno pickguards are like $100 a pop. I kinda just want to reuse the Mascis pickguard that I've got on the white body now. It's already wired up and I could just drop it directly into the semi hollow body after finishing.

Part of me wants to leave the semihollow body natural, with the gold guard and black covers. We will see. Here is a shot of the body

Big jump, but I was able to spend a lot of time over the weekend with the body.
Started out by sanding it (didn't need much) then went ahead and stained it navy with grey, which turned out kinda meh.

Then for whatever reason (was trying to experiment) I filled the grain with 'Red Oak' grain filler, to try to get it to be red and gold. Didn't really go as planned.
First photo is with the grain filler on, second is after it was sanded down.

So then I said fuck it, and went to the store.

After 2 cans of Cobalt Metallic Blue, we have a winner.

Then I took 3 cans of nitro to it. It looks darker in this picture than it actually is. Its SO sparkly that it is hard to take a photo of.

Going a different route with the pickguard. Ordered a black annodized Tone Guard with SY wiring (no rhythm circuit) that I will be using.

Thinking I may go with vintage white pickup covers and vintage white witch hat knobs, vintage white switch tip, and it would match my Mastery vibrato arm tip.

I'm away with work until Friday, so it's in my upstairs bathroom curing all week. I intend on starting assembly when I get home!

Dude I've already noted this project's radness over on the gram, but I need to ask you something.
Where do you get your anodised black guards? I'm after one for an ibanez but pickings are slim and expensive.

Also I think the gold look rad.
Keep it and go with gold hardware for a medieval tymes kind of vibe.

Tone Guard! They may or may not have what you are looking for, but they make all sorts of aluminum pickguards and brass as well.

Ahhh gold hardware is like my biggest petpeeve ever haha

Awesome! Thanks mate.

Yeah I hate gold, too. But I reckon you could pull it off there. Blue metallic, aluminium neck, gold. Could be super poon....

The gold guard is gonna stay on the original body, which I'm turning into a hardtail bass vi
