Hey guys! So I thought I'd pose a question here since I obviously have stated that the board is too pc at times and society in general is. I think that what I mainly mean by that is I like a good joke every once and awhile, low brow preferred. There is a line I draw though. Some things are just plain mean spirited and fucked up.

The reason I'm thinking about this is very recently a plus size model was on the cover of Sports Illustrated. I did not see any issue with this, but I have friends who are quite successful in the fitness community that did. They claimed that the person was disgusting and did not deserve to be on a magazine cover like Sport Illustrated which should be reserved for folks who are actually in sports shape. Well if you look at the trend of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit, I think the only qualification has ever been female with big breast and big. No sports are ever involved.

I was a bit taken back by this because I thought it was wrong on a moral level to try and shame someone else in such a way.

Then some asshole on Facebook posted a girl who competed in a new division of bodybuilding (kind of, it's a off shoot really) that is called "transformations". The woman had lost a 100 lbs but still wasn't the pinnacle of perfection. I argued with the guy and question who the hell he was to judge her and telling him that losing that amount of weight is a great accomplishment. He told me that not eating like a fat slob is no accomplishment and we shouldn't praise people who decide to get healthy. It went on a bit and I blocked him before telling him to go fuck himself because I don't want my Facebook turning into a war zone.

So my question is this. What the fuck is wrong with us as human beings? Are we so stuck on superficial looks that we can't see inner beauty? This is coming from a guy who does bodybuilding shows. I don't ever look at someone else and say "fucking loser, you suck".

I've started to rethink the whole PC thing too over the last year. I was wrong in a lot of regards. I just like dick and fart jokes. I can't help it.

What are you thoughts?

I think it comes with living in a society afixed on the external and the idea that having an outlet (social media) is the same as having an opinion that people should care about. When you mix these two ingredients, you will often create some sort of toxic amoral stew of words meant to boost one's own self by putting other people down, creating a self by creating some sort of 'Other'. You can either ignore it or log off. Social media is often like walking into a room full of people that are all telling you exactly what's on their mind at any given time. Chances are, you won't agree with most of them, especially is that room is facebook, with racist distant uncles and alcoholic, burger-flipping childhood classmates.

This body image thing is like an all new battle ground.
Particularly now we are in the middle of this fitness Renaissance and everyone thinks they're hotter than everyone else.
I commend you jwar, because let's face it, we're all built differently and there's no way that everyone can possibly look the same, no matter how much diet/exercise/brainless fun running/mma wanking they do.
I think you're right that people who decide to lose a lot of weight should be applauded, they're trying to turn their lives around, not just float down the path of least resistance.
I mean even that whole scenario is loaded with uncertainties. Some people aren't educated enough to eat properly, some too poor, some lack the social resources and support to change those habits, others do it due to mental health reasons or learnt behaviours, some people get nowhere with diet and exercise no matter how hard they try.
Having people who've never had a weight/body image in their lives dump on them would be fucking awful.
It's akin to people who've never had any issues with their mental health telling someone with severe depression to "just get over it". Yeah, real helpful.

Long story short, I don't think you're an asshole dude, particularly coming from where you are, I commend that.
It's overly PC to give EVERYONE a free pass on being overweight, because if you got there from lack of trying then you've only got yourself to blame, same as anything else.
But to shame people because they don't fit the archetype you impose on everyone based on some bullshit ideal you picked up along the way to give you a sense of control over life is a total dick move.

Those people are big vascular dicks, walking around ejaculating stupidity.

Wasn't trying to come at it from a "let's all look great and feel great angle", more of a, "maybe if you don't want to die of some shitty chronic disease, because that would suck, don't suffer if you don't have to" sort of thing.

And you're right, we are starting to enter an age where this is a massive issue for some guys.
I mean it's been problematic for some time now but it seems like it's becoming more widespread.
But I still think women bear the brunt of this with far more venom and awful loathing than men do.
If you've ever spent any amount of time perusing gifs of girls with bubble butts on the Internet (you know I have, not even gonna deny it) you will inevitably come to a page on a body building forum where some dude has posted a picture of a girl who is curvy, but by no means fat, and he is immediately belittled as being into "whales" and the poor girl in question (who undoubtedly gets paid to model her ass by someone) is completely demolished as a human being and turned into some rank, gelatinous puddle of biomass by the Fuckheads therein.
Who also proceed to call each other "faggot".
Now, I know I'm objectifying women by conducting searches like that, but basically I'm probably at home alone while my wife is at work at night and looking to jerk off. That's just what I like.
But to go into full analytics and have this hive mind mentality these fuckers do is just scary to witness.
