Like how long is it to 'hey...whats going on, why hasn't my pedlol even shipped yet?'

Um I think normal communication trumps a set schedule?

i guess it depends on the circumstance...but I usually expect to get notice that its shipped within a couple days of making payment assuming its a weekday or whatever. if a week went by with no update i'd probably go ahead and shoot an email to make sure they got the payment/ask for tracking info etc. If i'm not just "buy it now" and working out a deal on something then there is usually an open dialogue going on and seems every time the seller has always been like "i'll get it out in a day or two" and that's almost always been the case. I understand shit happens so I'm pretty laid back about it. but yeah, if a week went by without any response I'd probably give a friendly email to open a dialog.

Were you buying through ebay or equivalent or a private deal? Most sites like eBay the seller has to include a time frame which they'll ship by which shows up under the postage and payments section (not exactly in plain view but yeah). e.g. i set mine to 2 business days so i would hope that nobody messages me within that time frame expecting it to be shipped but if it exceeds that time for me to ship i always send a message. Sometimes people list it as a week handling time (at which point they should probably mention in the description too but if it's there then it's entirely reasonable for them to take that long).
If somebody takes longer to ship than they've stated anywhere it's really rude to not inform the buyer in the meantime, and if they haven't made any indication at all then you shouldn't feel bad about messaging them at any point just to get an estimate, if you're buying shit that's a basic expectation. It happens a lot on ebay especially so i think it's worth pestering people that are lazy like that so that they hopefully get their act together.

Good communication is key. If someone works M-F and they don't have an Office Depot or shipping store in their town, I can live with them waiting 3-4 days to ship my gear. It needs to be shared with me upfront though. Otherwise, I politely ask sellers after 3-4 days if they've had a chance to post it.

I do everything I can to ship the same day. As a buyer I hate waiting. As someone whose life has been burdened with so much loss, so much regret, and so much frustration, music is one of the few things in this world I can really feel ownership over...soooo...when I order a pedal, that's one of my greatest joys in an otherwise disappointing existence. It's not unusual for me to check the online tracking 20x a day until it arrives. Since I hate doing that as a gear junkie, I absolutely hate to do that to someone else. If I can cut that number down from 80 to 60 for someone else, then I'm happy to oblige them with some relief.

I don't understand these mom and pop outfits that need 2-3 days to fulfill orders. The sooner people get their stuff, the sooner they can evaluate it and decide if they're keeping it or not. If someone decides to return their merchandise or make a second purchase, the faster it goes out, the better for the merchant. Disorganized shops and tardy shipping agents are the worst. I try to be patient and not to bug them, but I generally don't give shops more than 3 days to put my gear out the door. I've had so many instances where my order couldn't be fulfilled, because a dealer skipped over me and later sold out. If someone waits 4 days to tell me they've sold out, then they've lost my business, unless it was a heavily discounted item.

Purchased 12 days ago. Sent an email on Tues which wasn't replied to and then sent one on Thurs to see whats up and haven't heard anything back.
