Looks like you should just get into sounding beforehand.

I thought of that... like, some dudes might not be frightened of this at all. But at the same time, I doubt being into anal suddenly turns a colonoscopy into a fun adventure. It's probably a good deal contextual.

Nope never had that! That's fucking nuts! I've had scopes in the back side and in the mouth. Hopefully not one after another, but the doc had me on drugs...so you never know. LOL.
I'm honestly not sure why general anesthesia would be used. I would think you'd want an amnesia drug of some sort. That's what they do with the other scopes. You are there, but you're not. You will never remember anything. It also kills pain too. That way though, if you need to turn or something like that, they can simply instruct you to. I've had probably 15 scopes (no joke) and had it for almost all of them. They used to give you demirol when I first started needing them, but then stopped along the way.
You'll be fine man. I know the anxiety of medical shit sucks.
I do think they could do a ultra sound though, like DOS is saying (at least I think that's what he's saying lol). Unless of course you've already had one. I had a buddy with a bad hernia in the groin area and they never had to scope him.

OK! So admittedly I misread what you said you could have.

I just looked. According to the Mayo Clinic, they can test it with urine, imagining or the scope. So I'd exhaust the other options before I went to the scope. That's just me.

SOUNDING. WHY?
That reminds me of a friend of mine who's a urologist. He had this guy come in who was having really bad pain... did some x-rays and the doc sees some familiar shapes. It turns out he had rubber fishing lures in his bladder(!!!!!!!!). The patient insisted he didn't know how they'd gotten there, but it was obvious to the doc that he'd been sticking them up his pee hole. People.
So that's my contribution! Oh, and I got an upper endoscopy once (aka cam via throat) and it was super easy. They knock you out and it takes about 10-15 minutes... I'd imagine you might be able to get something of the sort for your exam. But either way, don't freak out—the docs know what they're doing and I'm sure they'll be particularly gentle considering the territory. Good luck, man!
EDIT PS general anesthesia is nothing to worry about. I'm a total hypochondriac, too... but really, it's ok. You'll be fine.

You guys are horribly insensitive (as usual). That's nothing new.
To allay your fears, colossus, you'll be fine.
I've had more endoscopies than I can count and countless other invasive medical procedures.
(No, D.o.S., I was not abducted by aliens. At least not that I can remember.

Sorry, dude. That'd weird me out, too. I think you're within reasonable limits to be skeeved out by the process. Just tell the practitioner about your anxiety--I'm sure you're not the first, and they'll have resources for you.

I haven't had one, but a cystoscopy is a really routine urologic procedure. They will use a local anesthetic. It will be a quick procedure. You might feel some burning after the fact but nothing terrible. It's more psychologically weird than it is painful.

I was going to go for the sounding gag, too, but I would have hid it behind an NSFW tag. D.o.s., you're quick.
Sorry you have to deal with this. It'll probably be fine. Maybe ask for some valium or something. That's what they offered my wife when she went in for her IVF transfer which is maybe kind of similar.

Yeah if he's concerned about micro-scale bleeds it's going to be the best way to check everything out.
It won't be the most fun thing you've ever done but I would be leaning towards the "lets suck it up and find out what's going on ASAP so we can get on with treating it and making it go away" camp.
The quicker you get a diagnosis, the quicker you can move on.
Fishing lures into penis = long term payment for a short term reward.
