I've been a die-hard fan of Harry Potter, both the novels and the films, since middle school, and this is just a huge emotional blow. For me this is personally sadder than Bowie's death (not to compare very sad situations, just saying). I see Rickman as a personal hero because he embodies the idea that creativity isn't a race and you don't need to rush the things you love for yourself or other people; when he played Hans Gruber, he was 49 years old. His first film role. Before that he was dicking around behind the scenes in a theatre, putting costumes on the other actors. And for that, he gave up a comfortable graphic design job, in his '30s, no less. He made me feel like, I don't need to worry that I'm not a rock star yet. I'll just keep writing music and shit until I'm ready and do things at my pace. RIP Snape.

Always seemed younger than his age to me. Never realised he was nearly 70.
