Its not really a sandwich is it? No. No its not. Its a mushy pile of what bares the closest resemblance to cake that should not be advertised as a sandwich anywhere ever. A sandwich is something that i get at lunch because it is easy and quick and sometimes i can even eat it on the go. Making this openfaced and slathering it in gravy or ketchup or coconut pineapple curry bullshit white girl sauce negates everything i just said. Also it should be a crime to list one of these atrocities on your sandwich list and not mention that it is open faced.

I'm from Quebec. A sandwich isn't a sandwich unless it goes, in order, rye bread, mustard, more red meat than Andre the Giant could have consumed safely, rye bread.

I am in totally agreement... Except for this one open face sandwich at a vegan restaurant not too far from my house. It has actually been turned into a wrap, but it was the best when it was open faced.

Allow to set the mood for you. The place is called ION (It's Only Natural). The dish was called the Open Faced Cali Melt.

House made bread, house made hummus, carrots, roasted red peppers, portabella mushrooms, onions, avocado and cashew Parmesan. All nicely toasted. Shit was sooooooo good. So good we would recreate it at home for lunches on the weekend.

yea I'm not big on open face sandwiches. you might as well just have it as a meal, but my bread to the side so I can dip it or use it to scoop up the gravy... usually it's roast beef poboys that turn into open face because of how much gravy they put on them regardless if you ask for it light or on the side or whatever.
