When To Give Up On A Trade?

I've been pretty lucky with my trading hijinks over the years. The worst experience being a box I made a mistake addressing which was returned to me after a couple of weeks of silence. I've probably had 50+ trades and the such on here. Hell, I did my own tour box. I'm really, really struggling with one right now, though. I traded a pedal for a guitar about a month ago. I was told he would ship on the 16th of October. After much silence and a couple of messages from me, I got a message the 26th saying he was having real world issues but would ship the next day. That was almost two weeks ago. This was supposed to be my big gift for my girlfriend for Christmas, a project guitar for her first electric. Now, time to order parts is running out. xleroyx was able to hook me up with another, less labor intensive guitar, so that's covered, but I am still annoyed.
When do you give up on a trade coming through? It isn't about the value of the items, it is about the lack of communication. It takes a minute to shoot someone an email. Hell, a realistic timeline would be enough.

At this point I would say you need to get your part of the trade back. We all have real world problems but you and this person had an agreement and they failed to follow through or communicate.

If it was an ILF member, call them out.
A lot of people here know each other outside of ILF and might already know or could find out what's up.
Also, the B/S/T needs to police itself good or bad.
The person good have other failed trades and still be fucking people because no one wants to rock the boat.

dude that sucks,
I have had one trade flameout on here a few years ago
can't remember who but it went on for about 2 months I think till I got my original stuff back as I recall
stuff happens but you gotta make it right at some point.
I am guessing that they didn't realize what a pain it is to ship a guitar.
calling him out publicly kindof sucks but it may save someone the grief of getting jammed themselves.

Good news: I got an email with the shipping confirmation number today, likely because of this thread. When it is delivered, I'll delete the thread.

The guitar arrived. I am going to leave this up for a day, then delete it tomorrow. Sorry that it came to this, but everything is resolved.

The thing is though, people should know that this guy is a pain in the ass to deal with.

It's hard to balance. I mean, maybe his other trades have been smooth and this is an aberration? I wish there was a way to put someone on probation or just a yellow light...

I actually had a trade with him fall through due to real world problems. Likely the same guitar and the same problems (for the record it was/is some heavy shit), but I never shipped anything so it was never an actual issue.

I got'chu man.
Guitar is all set up and intonated too. Sounds rad. Looks radder.
You might want to tweak everything a bit due to shipping in the cold weather, but your gf should love the guitar. Mine is kicking me for trading it since she wanted it, but I'm building her a telecaster on the DL. \m/
