:?: :wha?: :idk: :erm:

So, this fella is selling this thing, and he has zero information on it, aside from his speculation that it was "made in the 70's", which I'm skeptical of, but still..I'm curious.

(When right side up) Controls on the left side are %2, %4, controls on the right side are tone, dist.
Enclosure was originally yellow, he says it was repainted brown. There are four screws on the face of the enclosure, near the corners, like on certain Russian muffs.

No relevant information otherwise. Nothing on the PCB, and of course the face of it has been painted over.

I'm curious to see if anyone here can identify it. Could be worth the purchase if it ends up being something neat/obscure.

Well, the /2 and /4 probably mean one octave down and two octaves down. Beyond that, no idea...

Knowing what the chip numbers are would be helpful, the middle one looks like an NE570 to me which is a compander chip, it's probably some old ETI, PAIA, Craig Anderton project something like this http://www.spontis.se/pdf/susfuzz.pdf

Baha!

I'm no help but based on the octave theory, maybe something down the Blue Box or Octave Divider end of town?

Maybe you can do some spot checks with some solvents and see if the brown paint might come off without taking the yellow underneath with it?

Only in the 70s would someone think mission brown was an appropriate respray choice.

Yep it's a rocktave divider. Worked on one for Kosta a while back. Cool circuit

Nice find dude.
Sounds pretty neat, reading the description and notes there.

Yeah, I concur on the Rocktave, but with added IC's for the distortion part.

Late to the party, but I've brought some salsa for all those chips.

Huh, nifty! Good work, team.

It kinda sounds like a more sputtery/gainy/broken MXR blue box. Wouldn't you know it, I just ordered a new blue box about a week ago.
I think I'm good on octave down effects, lest I bring my guitar into brown note territory.
