Sweden had an attack on a school today

I'm just really torn up about this. Someones 11 year old kid is not coming home from school today. And another family is hoping that their 15 year old will survive his injuries. And it's all because of hate created by adults. Ugh, take care of yourselves and your kids everyone

The right to bear swords must not be infringed.

haha I'm pretty sure swords are illegal in public in Sweden though. And I'm happy he didn't have a gun.

You know if he did though, Sweden would put that shit on lock down and make sure it didn't happen again. Meanwhile in America, people think we should pass them out at the beginning of the school year like a goddamn syllabus.

That really is tragic though. This shit makes me want to home school my kid all the way to his master's.

Creepy as fuck too. Mask, knife/sword, and creepy dissonant music.

Yeah, I guess. The fundamental problem in this instance is that it's a hate crime. He was apparently of the really racist anti-immigrant movement in Sweden and he attacked a school where the majority of the kids were kids born by immigrants. Meanwhile, a scary number of refugee accommodations has been burned down the past few weeks. This entire movement of neo-nazis has gone from being obscure anonymous internet dudes to going out on public demonstrations, expressing themselves in media and, most importantly, actually going out and attacking people. It's fucking scary

Yeah that's pretty fucked up. I knew that a lot of the "recent" immigration/emigration/migration wasn't sitting well with some elements in greater Western Europe and the CIS but I sort of assumed that your neonazis were fringe and largely powerless/wusses like ours.

Also fuck the press for their shitty coverage of this.

Headline in an apparently non-tabloid paper: "Liked Nazi Germany and listened to hard rock".

Good journalism guys.

I think the actual neo-fascist movement in Sweden is highly marginalised, though somewhat better organised than the impression I get of your dudes. So that is not so much a factor here - feel free to disagree Brandsmannen (or any of the other Swedes on the board). But our far right flirts far more with those groups than your far right would.

Third biggest party here is the Swedish Democrats, who are a joke of a party, with no ideological consistency what so ever, so they are a little difficult to pin down, but they are socially conservative, extremely anti immigration, nostalgic (they still believe "folkhemmet" is a possibility), anti-intellectual, somewhat anti-establishment. National romantics. Disparate. Hopeless politicians. And yet relentlessly popular.

Which is frightening.

They differ from the teaparty in that religion is not really a big deal for them, and also that they clothe their policies such that folk with extreme views - neo-fascists and the like - don't have to read too hard between the lines to find a lot to like in most of their policies, and yet they word it in such a way that Anders Andersson, slightly miffed and slightly marginalised lower middle class ethnic Swede looking down the barrel of downward social mobility can vote for them without reflecting in the slightest over any sympathies with the right. Which if I've understood the Tea Party correctly isn't something they really do - at least not on a federal level. But my knowledge of right wing politics in the States is limited to whatever Time Magazine tells me is true so... :idk:

Another example of institutional racism in Sweden: A few weeks back a random dude went to the kitchen section of Ikea, grabbed a knife and stabbed the shit out of some people. Every single report ran the headline that he was an immigrant and talked about his background, and the problems associated with immigration. All of the white power dudes got their knickers in a knot.

But this guy - no-one mentions "boring fucking white Swedish guy" as being the cause of his violence.

God damnit this whole thing makes me :picard:

Goroth is 100% right. The dude from today has actually already been called a hero on a big Swedish anonymous forum by a few people. A hero. For killing a teacher and an 11 year old boy. Blows my mind, and I just feel so sad about this whole thing.

Those are the same scums of this earth who hail anders breivik btw, so they are a special breed of oxygen waste

Um that's mostly correct although the Tea Party is a pretty marginal voice within the greater Republican party (small population massive megaphones sort of thing).

We have many more Anders Anderssons here (Andy Andrews, I guess) who are standard order Republicans, a ground that seems pretty in-line with your description of Swedish Democrats.

Yeah. The Moderaterna (the "moderates") are theoretically our republicans, but they've lost a lot of the joe average voters, especially outside of the big cities, as they are perhaps a little too progressive, and too urban. I think they'd still end up on the left if we transplanted their politics directly into the American system, but we like to think they're on the right. So they've lost perhaps 10% of the national vote and it has gone directly to the Swedish Democrats. Which is sad, because Jesus, there's gotta be a better outlet for their frustration than those jokers.

The best part about the Swedish democrats is that every fuckup seems to just increase their popularity when it should sink them. But they're still living high on their "outsider" image.

For reference:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bj%C3%B6rn_S%C3%B6der (holder of one of the most important political posts in Sweden)
and so on. I just cherry picked the stuff that was in English.

Ugh. So much Picard right now.
