Who else has seen this documentary? I'm very fascinated by synths (aren't we all?) and found it really informative. Especially as I think about getting a workstation vs rack vs the moog 32 + a rack. Still no idea how to incorporate everything. Anyways, who's seen it? Anyone more in the euro rack world have thoughts on it? They spend a good 20 minutes on euro rack which I thought was great.

I'm intrigued by synths but don't really know shit about them. I found this documentary to be pretty interesting and informative. I saw it a few weeks ago. A good watch.

It's great. You gotta see the hardcore version, though.

I'm halfway through it. Although they keep warning me of the obsession it might evolve into, I can't fucking bring myself to stop watching. This is dangerous stuff.

Just saw this. As someone who knows next to nothing about synthesis beyond occasionally happening on fun cheesy sounds, it was a really interesting look into that related obsession. Thankfully, intimidation>temptation on the modular thing, at least for now.

The movie was fucking rad! I wish I was aware of the "people were throwing them in dumpsters" era, but I was only like 5.

Modulars can be awesome but they're not for everybody. If you think you'd be interested in that, try to find a way to test things yourself, because the music-making process is radically different compared to guitar/bass (which is what most people here are used to).
And we're probably currently in the golden age of modular synthesis, there's never been that many options available for musicians. The potential problem with that is that it's even easier now to focus too much on the gear and not enough on using it

. A number of people on Muffwiggler are the living proof of this (not everyone though, thankfully

).

I've seen full modular systems go for cheap around these parts. That's the good thing about living in a country with few people, miniscule niche communities, and loads of rich people just passing their midlife crisis. Still not getting into it, though. I don't trust myself enough.

Watched the standard version, enjoyed it for the history, but I wish it had gone more into the mechanics of making patches.
I suppose that wouldn't have been the easiest things to explain in a short period of time, let alone subtractive vs additive and all the formats.

Truth. It's a lot of footage, but well worth it.
