NEW Reverbs from the Dr.!!!

The Dr. says that later this summer they are hoping to have two different Reverberators available!!!!

1) The first will be in a smaller box with surface mount components, painted and screen printed enclosure. It will be "hand assembled but a little more mass produced than our current offerings." It will have all the same features and sound quality of the current RRR, just smaller and more readily available. This one is tentatively called the 'rrr.'

2) The current RRR will disappear for a couple months and get some extra features: treble and bass tone controls, addition of digital spring verb with the Belton module, and hopefully a new decay control other than the toggle switch. I forgot to ask, but I presume this one will still have Tanya's artistic flair individually applied to each pedal. This pedal will rule!

These photos are just prototypes of the smaller box 'r r r.' I expect Tanya will come up with something dazzling to decorate this one.

Ryan and Tanya:  :omg:

I've always wanted to visit Canada, but now I've got an additional destination while there. You two rule!

No, Jason, you are the one who rules! Thanks for starting a thread about these! You can visit any time you like, bring a jacket. (just 'cause it's cold, we're not jacket fetishists or anything weird.)

I'll keep this thread updated with news about the new versions if y'all like. I just finished up the second prototype revision of the miniberator and the third and hopefully last revision is ordered. We were thinking we might do a contest or something to give away a couple of these hand-soldered miniberator prototypes.. they don't have very fancy finishes but it takes hours and hours to do the pcbs so they're kinda special.

I think the first run of the miniberators will be in a red sparkle box with black text and graphic.. maybe a laser grid.. that's what I'm hoping for anyway ! We're going to have Pedals Parts Plus do them, just like Devi did with her awesome looking new pedals, they're cool folks to work with.

Early days still but we're trying to make progress with these.. the miniberators will come out first then that will hopefully give me some time to focus on the upgraded Reverberator.

Updates soon as possible!

Oh, P.S. have you guys thought of a price for those minis? I would guess they'd be less than the "Big Box" Reverberators... so $200-ish? :bob:

Right you are, Blurillaz! We want the miniberators to be as affordable and accessible as possible and we're shooting for an MSRP of no more than $200, less if we can but I don't want to use any different parts than I currently use and the good stuff always costs a bit.

So I figure these are stll in prototyping and it's difficult to give a time frame...
but any estimate when you'd like to see these hit the streets?

I figure that they might be able to get them out around August, hopefully :idk:

P.S. can I have a prototype for free?

Thank for the quick response! Was editing my original post

A contest for the proto sounds like a cool idea :thumb:

We're definitely planning on the miniberators hitting the streets before the upgraded Reverberators and the time frame is admittedly vague right now but 3ish months is our hopefully realistic goal.

I've done the second prototype and the third revision of the pcb will arrive this week so I can make the third proto. If this final revision is everything it needs to be then I'll consider the pcb design finished and that's a huge part of getting the pedal ready.

The next steps look like this:

-finalize pcb design and get quotes from manufacturers, order first production run, this could take 1 to 2 months with the emailing and the ordering and all that. The miniberators are made of all the same parts and components, just smd versions of the active and passive parts, so at least that's all known right now.

-finalize the box artwork and drilling template for PPP, this could be a week or so for us and PPP needs about 2ish weeks to do their thing, depending on how big our first order is. We'll probably start with a batch of 50 or 100, red sparkle boxes, and from then on Tanya will be regularly making new artwork for the screen printing with different colour boxes so we can keep the visual aspect as interesting as possible.

-train a piece worker.. we're going to have these miniberators assembled for us by a local guy that we trust and train and that's all he'll do. The guy is lined up and waiting for us to be further along in the process.

The part of the process that will slow us down the most is the pcb manufacturing. SMD can't be done by hand, only for these prototypes as I don't know a better way, but we've already had talks with a local manufacturing company. We'll be using a Canadian company for these pcbs and the time frame will ultimately come down to how fast they can make them for us. I've been getting a lot of advice from Steve Bragg with Empress Effects about the manufacturing and I think a 6 week delivery time for an order is the usual.

I figured I'd just keep the updates coming as they happen, I don't want to give any false hopes for the time frames and for some of the steps I can't exactly say as it involves other companies doing their end of the work.

We really need to get them out as fast as we can though as our stores are nearly at a one year lead time and that situation is just snowballing out of our control, so believe me, we're hyper-aware of these time frames! But this is new to us and mostly uncharted waters so I'm sure there will be some disappointing holdups along the way.

When the miniberators are ready we'll retire the current Reverberator for awhile while I make the changes to it... I think I could have the new version ready within 1 to 2 months, so fallish, but I'll be taking my time to make sure I don't change anything fundamental about the Reverberator's sound when I add active eq controls. And that damn toggle switch, that's going to be all out oscillator warfare and I just don't know how that's going to go down just yet...

So hopefully lots of action over the next 3 months.. and probably some holdups and delays that I never thought of.. but at the very least, you guys will know first! *smile*

I'll make a new thread soon for a contest for a miniberator prototype or two.. something fun and challenging.. like those National Treasure movies with Nick Cage, some kind of international mystery hunt, I love that stuff.

I really dig the breakdown...thanks for explaining, it is interesting to see the inner workings of the development of a new(ish) pedal.

I recently took some students from Istanbul University on a tour of NYC and I convinced them there was Templar treasure buried beneath Trinity Church

My pleasure, Jon, we're an open book around here! *smile*

Man, I couldn't be teased like that by a tour guide let alone a university professor... if I thought there was Templar treasure, UFO artifacts, Egypt secrets, shucks, pretty much anything, I'd have been sneaking back there at night with a shovel!
