Can I get some recs for a potential future turntable purchase?

I am generally pleased with my cheap plastic Aiwa table I got at Goodwill, but I am semi-concerned it is going to affect the longevity of my albums. I assume having some sort of counterbalance type thing is ideal, and this does not have that. Further, it has a built in phone preamp, which is fine to hook up to computer speakers, but I'd like to hook it up to this silly little Realistic stereo amp and my funny Zenith Circle of Sound speakers.

I'd maybe like something styling. I was looking at the U-Turn Orbit... although I'd sort of like something with auto return since I like to fall asleep to records at night. I suppose there are tonearm lifter devices available though

Budget?

The Pro-Ject Debut Carbon tends to be a good budget turntable. Technics are classics. It all depends on how much you are trying to spend.

Seems good so far and as new players go, not insanely pricey, mine was $150.

I usually hate lifehacker because have of their advice articles seem to be written by someone who has no idea what they are talking about, but that list is actually pretty good.

I had a Pro-Ject Debut III (predecessor to the Carbon) that I was very happy with.

If I get back into spinning the black circle, it will with this turntable.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Definitely some good considerations. I'll admit the budget I think I will be willing to spend is probably closer to $200.

Just found this tonearm lifter unit, which would make the U-Turn and Pro-Ject stuff more viable to me:

I really like the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon. If you listen to 45s often, though, you do have to take off the platter and reseat the belt to change the speed.

Or, buy a speed box.

The vast aftermarket for 1200s makes it a no brainer.
