Do we have a screw EBay thread yet?

Was pretty much done with EBay for most of my gear purchases. Went to get a pedal today and won the auction, cause I saw the PayPal logo and assumed it would accept Bill Me Later like every other purchase I made. Go to check out and it doesn't offer it as an option, so I message the seller and say 'weirdly enough it's not letting me use BML, that's how I was going to pay, I've never been in a situation where PayPal was an option and BML was not, I'm sorry' Instead of being understanding or just accepting BML he sends a two paragraph message back about how I wasted everyone's time and he's going to report me. Ignore the fact that this guy has 1/10 of the feedback that I do.

ebay is shitballs, sucks having to deal with way uptight people like that, it's goddamn depressing how many of them are out there. i still sell on there a lot because it's harder to move stuff on ILF not being in the US and Reverb is kinda useless outside USA too, but it continually gets worse over time..

having said that i have mixed feelings about the whole bill me later thing, i mean we have home loans and stuff for a reason but when that using money we don't have thing starts extending to stuff like casual gear purchases i think maybe it's gone a bit too far? idk

It's just like a credit card. Pretty harmless I think, as long as you're good with money.

Yeah I pay off the stuff I use bill me later for very quickly. I usually use it when I find a deal, then flip stuff immediately to pay it off. It's sometimes hard to say no to things with that ability to use credit but I'm always 100% real and talk myself out of a purchase if I know for sure I don't have things to sell to cover it

Fair enough. Credit cards aren't ever really harmless, even if there's no interest you're creating some degree of debt stress and inhibiting your ability to save money, so if you're gonna do that getting it paid off at lightning speed is the way to go. They offer the bill me later thing because it inevitably increases spending.
I mean it's kind of interesting to me as a cultural thing because i couldn't ever see myself being comfortable with the concept. For every smart dude like skully there are probably dozens of people getting too comfortable with it and causing themselves problems

Complete douchebag seller move. He could easily try a second chance offer with the next highest bidder, if there were one.

The days of bargain after bargain from small, private sellers are now few & far between. But some of the best deals I've gotten have been on eBay...including my first DMM.
My main complaints are how overly complicated the red tape has gotten, how buyers are able to exploit sellers until you're the buyer....and the increasing numbers of brazenly scummy people drawn out from the shadows of CL. Lots of sellers are angry from dealing with them so they will take out their frustration on you. I've also had my share of sellers try to run scams/unload junk/pull real shady moves.

Condensed version: Opening bid on rare vintage studio gear was for $550 with a BIN price set at 1500. I bid. 4 days later the auction ends and I win at the opening bid. The timing of an automatic transaction screwed me and I needed a few days to make up the difference and add cash to the linked account. Murphy's law. I immediately msg'd the seller and communicated my intentions and the situation. The seller seized the opportunity to go full blown passive-aggressive and make all sorts of assumptions, going so far as to aggressively try talking me out of the sale while changing his story and squandering no excuse. I had never before encountered a seller this determined to talk me out of paying him. Ever.
So he sends a series of claim escalating messages and actions, each to which I respond within hours, repeating my intentions. It's as if there was zero comprehension. So finally, not 36 hours later I get a request to cancel transaction to which I reiterate myself again. He calls ebay and cooks up some hell of a lie, because suddenly the transaction is cancelled without my approval. 6 weeks later, the item is relisted for $200 more and I'm blocked from bidding on his items. Class :thumb:

Fun fact: 2 months later I get the item I want from another seller, for $200 less than my bid. As for the lying douche? His relisted item is still sitting there. TFW last laugh.

Damn that is ridiculous!
I had a guy today tell me if I don't pay him by Sunday he will re-list the item. I just won it last night/today! and no where in his listing does he say, "I'm an impatient ass who must be paid immediately after item is won."

Yeah I don't do eBay typically. Mainly for used gear that isn't "special". I intend to buy a Kramer focus 111S or 211S because ebay is the way to find those now that MusicYo.com is gone.

But yeah, eBay is no good and no fun.

Is he outside the US? I've noticed you can't use bill me later (*ahem* "Paypal Credit") for international transactions. You should still be able to put it on a card though.

I have had a few pretty crappy ebay transactions lately but it has been buyers not sellers
I did have a terrible time getting questions answered about getting a new phone the last few days, ended up just dealing with T-mobile

I have had 2 buyers lately buy and not pay
one just disapeared, won and then bailed
the other guy asked for extra pics, which I sent. and then told me he was cancelling cause the shoes were fake.
That one pissed me off, because I took a best offer from him and then he punked out. I think he was tiring kicking with the offer, and then panicked when the money was due.

Honestly, if someone comes to me with an issue I try to be as accommodating as possible,
sounds like the guy you were dealing with was a real a-hole.

sorry duder

Hahahah it's alright. Honestly I wasn't too surprised. But I do think it's hilarious I was able to actually do the transaction in the end. It's laughable now
