I just won an auction on skeezbay for a really good price. Basically I was the only bidder so I won it for the opening bid. While I'm excited I got a great price I'm sure from the description the seller was confident they were gonna get like 2-3x what I paid. I'm happy to get something I've been wanting and at a great deal but there's a little part of me that feels bad for the dude knowing he probably feels like he's getting screwed. Of course there's the old "don't list anything below a price you're willing to accept for it" thing but I know I'd feel irritated if I were in his shoes. You guys ever feel bad after getting a great deal?

There's no need to feel bad about stuff like that, by listing something as an auction at a low price you're basically resigning yourself to getting rid of something for whatever you can get rather than trying to get a certain price.
If stuff goes for 'cheap' it's generally because the seller won't ship things, hasn't described it well, took crappy pictures, or simply the item in question is being deliberately overpriced by all the people asking more for it.

Once i bought a set of several vintage pedals from a dude (a police officer at that), they were listed at 99c auction and had a buy it now price that was stupidly low, someone bid on it but i messaged the guy asking if he'd do the BIN price privately and he was cool with it, only reason I felt kind of bad is because if he'd just let the auction run he definitely would have gotten a few hundred dollars more for it at least. But

Even-traded a Spring Chicken LE for a first-run Misty Cave, like 10 days before Malekko surprise announced the RI Spring Chicken LTD; which was a time when the MC just wasn't anywhere in the USA...and before it had the CV control (the one I got was modded by LAL, but the jack is unlabeled).
It was to an ILF broham in Oz (Tom) ...who at least made proper use of it...based on his (killer) setups posted to the pedalboard thread over a period of many months. Now both pedals are readily available and once again fairly close in value...which reminds me, I need another SC

I bought my IPS-33B off of CL for a very low price. Nice little old guy was selling. He dug out the manual and laminated quick start, and then he went rummaging to find the wired remote control that most people seem to have lost, and he turned it up. I only had an extra $10 on hand but I kicked it in for his trouble.

Had I known more about pedals at the time I would have felt bad when I grabbed my near mint bubble font for $50 from a guy on Craigslist.

I flipped so much gear on kijiji when I was 14-16 that I didn't even bother feeling bad about it. I'm talking buying a teisco for $50 and posting it up the same night for $150. It's a little surreal that I've owned over 50 guitars when I own two now and live on minimalism .

After a few hours I feel kinda silly. It was an old amp that has had a few mods and the seller doesn't have much feedback so I guess it makes sense I got it so cheap since it was a bit of a risk on my part. Honestly I won't be surprised if I get an email telling me he's relisting it or it's "already sold somewhere else" so he can try to get more money. I'll just expect I'll have to make a paypal claim and then be pleasantly surprised if I actually get the amp and don't have to, haha.

Really when you think about it you never know how much a seller paid for an item. Hell, this guy might have found the amp on the side of the road and cleaned it up for all I know. Even at the low price it might be all profit. I guess it's not worth feeling guilty about unless it's an ILFbro who needs the money and you're lowballing them.

i only feel bad when the (usually old/vintage) pedal or synth or whatever breaks in transport.... and then battling with UPS or fedex to get the insurance money back to the buyer. The worst experience I had was a 1970s korg guitar synth (forgot the model), but it was completely destroyed somehow when it arrived. I don't pack gear badly either

had a lady hit me up on CL a few years back about a 12 string I had, I was about to sell it too her and she mentioned it was a learning tool for her 12yo daughter
guitar played like a flipping beast, heavy action, wide neck, really had to fight it to sound good

I ended up talking her out of the guitar and selling her an electric I had built from parts and giving her a free amp (for the same price as the 12)


I did once get a black russian muff from a kid for 30bucks, but he was looking to flip for weed, so I didn't feel terrible about it at all.

i receive the ebay favourites email saying something i want is being listed insanely supercheap and buy-it-now.
i buy-it-now, pay up and get the standard default 'item will be posted tomorrow' message.
then the next morning i get the classic 'fuck you off politely' email from the seller with a refund saying that they decided to give it to their brother-in-law, it's been stolen, it has some damage they didn't notice (blah, blah, blah).
the following thursday i get another favourites notification for exactly the same item relisted for three times as much by the same seller, or by some snakey dealer who sweet-talked the seller into blowing me out for him with some line about how he needed it for his disabled relative.
so i've thought i've got a great deal a few times but got snaked out every time.

On one of the motorcycle forums I'm on, one of the members was selling some kind of sound processor for $10. I thought to myself "I can probably make some kind of use for this" and purchased it. When I arrived he gave me another box (some kind of VGA adapter) and I threw in an extra $10.

Lo and behold I go searching through the web for a PDF of the manual and find them selling for over $100. Needless to say I flipped it. Kinda feel bad about it, even though I fully intended on keeping it...
