Thinking about using Air BNB for my next business trip.
It's cheap, you get to meet people (which I don't like in general but need to branch out)
Plus you get a local's take on the culture a bit.

Anyone ever use it?
My wife is convinced I will get murdered.

not air bnb, but i've used couchsurfing before a few times. met some cool ppl. i am still alive

I have had a couple of good experiences on Air BnB. The best was at a cool old house outside of Savanah,GA. The owner made a living singing songs in Okinawan over in Japan (because speaking Okinawan was banned at one time, a lot of people now love the traditional songs). She sang us songs and cooked us breakfast. The room was HUGE, the bed was nice and it was cheaper than a crappy hotel in Savanah.

I was totally murdered.

I haven't yet, but a good friend of mine uses it all the time. His wife even used it to find a place to host his birthday party when they wanted an alternative to having it at home that wasn't a restaurant-type place.

So far, he's told me about only one stay that was weird, in which the owner was still there (the person was subletting a guest room). The guy seemed super-creepy and lurk-y at first, but just turned out to be kind of lonely.

the one problem I am running into is that Hotels in CN have normal toilets but the air bnb places have squatting toilets

I do, but I have had one Giant BM over a squatting toilet and it didn't go well

Huh. Maybe AirBnB should make "bathroom accommodations" a screenable/searchable element.

I had great success with my air BnB listing in Gilgo Beach.

I couch surfed and lived, I have a friend who actually rents via airbnb and seems to love doing to supplement income as musician.

8 AirBnB stays and counting. Im still here :P.
