I was never a huge Trekkie, but Spock was the best.

I heard about Leonard's death at work, and some of us stopped what we were doing and talked about it. It was nice, he was an influence to a lot of people.

It sucks. At least he got old, and lived a seemingly full life. And Spock will be remembered - we're living in the early days of modern society, who knows what cultural significance a show like Star Trek will hold in a thousand years.

I nearly cried at work, I grew up on star trek and it influenced so much of what I do. Worst of all is that I was wearing my star trek science uniform hoodie today, people kept giving me side glances when grocery shopping I even had a couple stop me to say that they were sorry. :|

George Takei told a story about how it was brought to his attention that Nichelle Nichols (Uhura) was making less than the rest of the cast, and Leonard fought to get her a raise up to the pay of everyone else.

man, I used to watch In Search Of... reruns OBSESSIVELY as a kid. didn't matter if i'd seen it a million times. and he was the voice of it... even though most of it was junk/pseudo-science/pseudo-history/etc, it really did a lot to inspire a sense of wonder in a dumb little minnesota kid. inevitable, but a true shame.

And you wouldn't know it's Nimoy without Shatner hogging the mic, so this seems very apt:

He was my first "hero" when I was a kid, I grew up with Star Trek as my favourite show. In Search Of was awesome too.
Its been a sad day.

Never really watched much Star Trek, but I've always thought that him, Shatner and Takai are cool dudes (and legitimately enjoy the music that the former to have done <_<), so I was still pretty bummed when I read that this morning.

Climb the steps of mount seleya!
My parents were trekies and took me to all the original movies in the theater. They also bought all the movies on vhs. I could probably recite the entire script for Wrath of Khan by memory.
Rest in peace Leonard.
