How you computering?

What's your computer setup for musical purposes?
Right now I'm using a bottom tier HP laptop, I can't remember what model but it has an AMD A6-5200 and 4gb ram just some real basic shit. It's served me real well. Only problem I have with it, is that it gets all choppy during the sex scenes in Nekopara. Otherwise, with recording with Ableton Live and such it's never had any problems (but I don't have a bunch of tracks running at once so I don't think I'm too hard on my computer).
Anyways, what brought this all on was I was wanting to build a computer just because and all the stuff people recommend and whatnot is for gaming fools and their Steam. Just wanted to know what my musical brethren were using to kind of gauge what I really need.

lost it
i only have one computer which i use for everything, which is a spec'd out dell/alienware 'gaming' laptop. i bought it because it was the same price as a macbook pro but with about 3x better specs at the time.
12gb ram, core i7-3630QM.. i forget the other specs but i've never once had issues with cpu speed no matter what i had going in ableton/vst's/other daw's. It's beginning to get a bit clunky after over 2 years so i'll probably reformat it soon but the cooling system means it will likely not fry to shit as quickly as most other laptops do (the tradeoff being it weighs a fucking ton).
I've never understood why Mac is starting to take over for music production though, they're hideously overpriced, have a generally more limited lifespan, and are a pain in the fucking arse to use.
ideally i would have a desktop computer because same specs for way less money if you build it yourself, but i sit in bed to watch anime and stuff way too much and you can't do that with a desktop.

Iulz. I've been thinking the same thing, but I'm thinking the trade off will be having a nice IPS 23 inch monitor to watch all them cartoons. Your computey sounds nice, though.

Intel Core i7-3610M 2.4 GHz Processor
8 GB DDR3
500 GB 7200 rpm Hard Drive
15.6-Inch Full-HD 1080P LED Screen
Nvidia GTX 660M 2G GDDR5 Graphics
Works great. Never had it freeze, it runs heavy software well and plays 95% of games fine on high to very high graphic settings. Methinks it's called Asus RoG gw55.

ASrock z97x killer
Intel i7 4970k 4.0 GHz
Cooler Master EVO
Corsair Vengeance 16gb
Samsung 240gb SSD
Seagate Barracuda 3TB
ASUS GTX780 CU II
Other useless specs
It's really good, I don't really like my SSD though just because it seems to fill up without any real reason. But i'm sure that it handles programs well, because it plays games nicely at 1440p. I'm a piece of shit that doesn't need to buy women anything of value.

Are you using Windows? Do you have windows on the SSD, and then just store everything else on the hd? Do you think an SSD is worth the extra pennies?

i7 3820, 16GB ram, GTX670, 500GB SSD, 2x2TB drives (1 for media files, 1 for OS backup), Dell U3011 monitor
A SSD is one of the biggest performance upgrades you can make. It can improve nearly every type of computer use, gaming, productivity, editing. My PC boots in like 15 seconds, and programs are lightning fast to startup and load.
I run the OS, and most of my programs/games from the SSD. I store MP3s, videos, documents on one of the spinny drives.

Intel Core i5-3750 @ 3.4GHz
16 gigabutts RAM
Nvidia GTX 480
2TB HDD (please don't die)
Various strategically placed, overpowered and surprisingly loud fans to help cool the 480
It's my gaming PC too. No issues unless I'm playing a really graphics-heavy or poorly-optimized game. An SSD in the future would be sweet. The 480 has been fantastic, it's lasted longer than any other video card I've had in terms of keeping newer games playable, but man...before I worked out the cooling situation it would get SO HOT. Like, above boiling point hot. It's awesome now, but I was scared for a while.

Ya'll a bunch of heavy weights.
My stuff just came in the mail:
amd a10 5800k
120gb ssd
1tb hdd
16gb of ram
no graphics card, cuz i'm not a fuckin nerd who games. NERDS. jk, I just play roms. I figured I wouldn't really need one.
But, yeah, probably put it all together at the end of the week because now I'm just waiting on the tower to throw all that poopoo in. And then what I'm really excited about is the monitor I just got an ASUS VS239H-P IPS. 23" aww yah. Can't wait to fuck catgirls in vivid detail.

wow very techical specs.
All I know is I have a a SSD and a HD. the SSD has Windows and fruityloops on it. Nothing else. You turn computer on, sneeze, and windows is up. HOLY FUCK. fastest I've ever had.
I don't have it connected to internt beause of virus fears and I'd waste more of my day online if my working comp gave me easy access to youtube.
I don't know any tech specs because a frind set it up in an old Huge Box that has Pentium III proudly stamped in four places on it.
Uh....It has four fans?
