I twitter, now what?

I got on my old twitter I started two years ago and never used. Now I'm kind of thinking it could actually be useful for band promotion and other junk.
So what do I do now? I have a profile pic. I follow a few random things that came with registration. What should I use it for? Who should I follow? I'm not exactly sure how this works, soyea I'm @MKEMarlow

50% of 21- to 27-year-olds identify themselves as "foodies." I don't know what percentage of those are white girls.

FWIW, I would never follow a band on twitter unless I really loved them. You're better off getting an instagram if you ask me, it's a more interesting way of communicating with people.
That's just me, I only follow Iron Maiden on twitter and various local news/culture/anti Rob Ford people, because it's all I have time for.
The reason I'm saying this is twitter is a dangerous proposition, you either loose people in a flood of info as your tweets are just scanned by, or you tweet too much and I'm like "bye bye", where I feel like instagram, you need to put a little more thought into what you're posting....

check out "self-righteous band" on twitter, some amusing tweets.
Twitter is useful and limiting, given the character limit.
I follow authors, news orgs and anything else I like.
Tweet of God is kind funny.
