I'm not religious, but I like to celebrate Christmas with family and friends because it is a cozy holiday. It turns out, however, that I'm going to be alone for it. My girlfriend is flying to her mom's, my brother and sister-in-law are flying overseas, and the only other person I would spend it with is a parent I don't get along with well so I am definitely not doing that. My roommates will be out of town and I'll have the apartment to myself.

What should I do with my time?

Do you have any secular/Jewish/non-Christian friends? I know plenty of folks in my area who hold little friend-group parties for folks who don't celebrate the holiday or are without family on that day. I have another friend who hasn't celebrated with his family in years - he orders out, rents all the DVDs he meant to watch that year, and has a personal movie marathon.

You could volunteer at a soup kitchen.

Or, get high and masturbate.

Or both, if you don't stick around for the eggnog.

Do it up NYC style - Chinese food, wait on line for a movie, avoid NYPD.

I actually am legitimately considering volunteering at the soup kitchen, I've never done it before and it's a good thing to do I guess.

I could do all of these. Wake up, get high, volunteer, go home and stuff my face full of takeout while watching flicks.

I'm gonna turn up my amp real loud too, for Yuletide reasons.

volunteering to help others is, i think, the way to go in this particular season. even though you're not religious, that doesn't mean you can't participate in the general idea of the season... helping someone less fortunate out is a bit more true to the modern concept of christmas but divorced from the commercialism/materialism.

and you can always beat off when you get home.
