Excuses used with the other half for new gear!

What excuses have you guys used in order to get new gear past the supposed better half. Have got an EFE DP 01 (Dope priest fuzz) and have ordered germanium sun face style pedal on its way from a local builder. The wife doesn't know about it yet. Have just bought a Marshall SL 5 so any new pedals need to be brought in covertly.
After the sunface clone I'm looking at a EFE Lucifer rising or Black Acid. Also want the joe bonamassa fuzz face. Need excuses guys. She can't hear what is an obvious difference in sound !

Sorry to be that guy, but if you have to sneak stuff past your wife/significant other you should reconsider either your gear buying habits or your relationship...

I disagree and have been married for 11 years (very happily I might add). All good marriages are made on an understanding that your wife will not understand you. LOL

My wife gave up on me buying new gear. She just stopped asking why the packages were coming. :)

Really you're an adult and as long as you can afford it, then it shouldn't be a big deal. But I have told my wife "honey it was a limited edition!!" or "I'm sorry!!! I couldn't help myself", many, many times through the years.

Honestly yes is good, but so is gear. hahaha

The real Darth Vader would never lie to Princess Jasmine or whoever the fuck it was he was dating. Natalie Portman is so hot though, remember her in Black Swan? Like hoooo yeah amirite lads?

I am very transparent with my wife. If I can't justify it to her I can't really need it that badly.

Or you could have no significant other. More time for he gear you won't have to find excuses for.

My wife knows I make trades, sell to buy, etc. so she doesn't question seeing different gear around.

New cash added into the gear fund would have to be a conversation and at this point I know I don't need to take our money and put it into my gear. If I had to have something, I would sell other hobby stuff and buy something.

While I have a very understanding wife she just doesn't get it. I have admit that I don't buy anything I can't afford and honestly don't really have to justify anything. The post was meant to be a bit of fun and to hear what other people have said about equipment. My wife views guitars as all the same so why do you need more than one. While it not being a point of contention she has asks is it not similar to something else.
But one of the reasons I have an understanding wife is that I discuss things with her, however when it come to guitar I swear I see her eyes glazing over.

I spend stuff on stuff I like (gear, books, skate stuff, vinyls) , she on stuff she likes (videogames, stuff for the dogs, clothing, drugs, raves). When we need to get something we split it. 50/50. No problems thus far.

My missus just shakes her head saying "not another fucking fuzz pedal" She doesn't really care, but doesn't understand my obsession with dirt pedals. I try explain to her about the different textures in the attack and the decaying of the fuzz, but her eyes just roll.

Everything jwar said.

There are a few approaches around what I am communicating, though.
My wife actually understands that a good value on a vintage instrument is not money wasted, but money that could potentially return a little. It helps if they are what she thinks is pretty: offsets, most gibson's etc…

As far as pedals go, it's great when it's a super small builder [she makes boutique toys] and understands the idea of supporting a small business or someone who is making things like art: outsound, for instance.

Lastly, what Jwar said is super relevant. If you are an adult, an can afford it, go for it. A good model for what we've done is we each put like 70% of our individual income into our shared expenses, savings, etc. Anything left over goes into what ever we each want…

My wife and I maintain separate bank accounts, pay into a joint account for all of our bills, and otherwise don't question what the other does with their spending money. Plus, she probably spends more on shoes, purses and jewelry than I do on gear.
