Any Android 4.4 gurus?

I got a new phone and already botched it. I accidentally had the default Android browser "always" open youtube videos in the app. Can't manage to find a menu that lets me change this, and clearing defaults doesn't do shit, nor did clearing all data on the browser. Additional suck news: somehow this default was stuck to Chrome, so no dice on switching browsers.
Anybody have any insight? Other than "get an iPhone"?

Which phone is it? Android can vary a lot per phone. It's usually under the application manager in the settings menu though.

LG Tribute. I think the install should be a similar to an LG Volt. There is an "apps" menu but not an "application manager" menu. Clearing defaults for the two browsers and for youtube off this menu doesn't work because there's nothing to clear. Clearing defaults generally from the three dot menu thing off of the apps menu does nothing.
It's driving me mad.

I'm on samsung, so our uis are a bite different, but
Try opening the youtube app, and then go back to the home screen.
Open the task manager (that thing that lets you switch between apps if youre running multiple) and hold down on youtube to open app info.
There's a section in there for launch by default that you can clear.
Alternatively, do the same for the chrome app.

Neither app, nor the native browser app, is reflecting any launch defaults to clear. And this is the solution everyone gives in everything I find online. I think you're solution is normally totally right, but my phone is totally wrong here.
I'll get used to it or be driven to restore factory settings, since no other fix is apparent. I would be very upset if that doesn't fix it.

Should be Settings > Apps > YouTube > Clear Defaults.

Where it says "Launch by Default" in the YT settings this navigates to it says "No Defaults Set" so the "Clear Defaults" button is grayed out and non-functional. Like I said, yes, this is normally the right solution, but not for my phone for unknown reasons.

Sorry to be unhelpful, and possibly redundant. But did you try the same thing for Chrome?
Also you might try removing the youtube app, or removing chrome, and reinstalling, or clearing the cache on both, and finally the data on both.
Edit: Also I should note that even with no defaults set on my Nexus 5 I sometimes have problems getting YouTube videos to play on this forum without opening up in the YouTube app. But some of them don't even play, so I look on the bright side. I've had it happen a few times where I wanted to watch the video bad enough I would quote the person, copy the url, then paste in the browser, fuck me.

All done to death. No launch defaults to clear, clearing cache and data did nada. Factory restore might be the last thing left.
Oh, and I think I would need to root to do a full uninstall of any of the apps, as all are pre-installed.

Only solution: smash new phone, get newer phone.

That's just science. You can't argue with science.
