60hz hum and half dead batteries

long story short I sold a fuzz face that works perfectly on ebay. the guy has some plexi clone for an amp. obvious that this amp can get pretty high gain. put a high gain pedal in front and you have a recipe for 60hz hum. I believe that he has cheap guitar cables and extension cords laying all around on the floor. also maybe his guitar is unshielded, I think he built it himself judging from his name naturallywiredguitars. he tells me he tried it on some other amps at someones house and got the same result therefor IT MUST BE THE PEDAL. to make matters worse, I setup that fuzz face to work better with half dead batteries and he says "no I'm not gonna hunt down half dead batteries". leave it plugged in for a few days how hard is that. am I asking too much? and really how much of this is my fault when there is no 60hz hum from a battery in a fuzz face that is completely shielded, only his house and his guitar cables?

My guess would be cables. Had a horrible hum and buzz issue going into my iPad when I had the cheapo iRig and the Peavy iLink. Purchased the iRig HD, plugged a monster cable into it and BAM goodbye noise!

Inquire if he's playing single coils. Try HB. Near any light sources or monitors? Other amplifiers?
Shitty cables on the input is probably part of the problem, but it sounds like the guy doesn't know how to use the pedal so it sounds good in his rig.
Especially if he's turning everything up to max. In other words, it's obv that bro doesn't even Fuzz Face.
