Like, can you do useful stuff with Siri, like jot down lyrics in the notepad thing when you are out walking with the pram (that's pretty much what I do with my free time apparently)?
Or is it just apple being crap and making a whole lot of something out of nothing?

Don't think I've ever had a practical use for Siri. I do enjoy getting into arguments when it doesn't understand me, though.

I use Siri when I'm driving, occasionally other times when hands are busy - doing dishes, cleaning litter boxes, etc. What I'm seeing about iOS 8 - location messaging being the key thing for me - I can see me using it (her? Which OS comes with Scarlett Johansen?) more often.
But what you're talking about isn't Siri - turning voice into action - but simple voice recognition - voice into text. The more you use it the better it works, but it's handy.

I just made sure she calls me Bitchpudding and left it at that.

I use siri (and the standard voice-to-text) occasionally when driving, because I'm really paranoid about doing shit on my phone while driving. Sometimes it takes a few tries before she gets what I'm asking, but I'd rather repeat myself than sit there tapping shit and reading shit while driving.

There's some cool Siri integration with the calendar app and wolfram alpha... but I pretty much just yell at her in the car to queue up directions

I do like the sound of that...
So if I'm understanding right, I could tell Siri to open notepad, open voice recognition, and then voice recognise some lyrics?
(Every now and then I feel so far behind with technology)

I use Siri a lot. If I'm out of town I find food. If I need a reminder. If I'm driving and get a message. Siri is an assistant, so, you're capable of doing anything she does for you, without her, but she helps you cut corners.

I've been increasingly using the Google version of Siri and I'm lovin it. I hate typing out stuff on touchscreens, and when you are in a social situation and you are using something on your phone to relate to the conversation it ties it all in together more nicely

generally I use Siri instead of trying to dial numbers/find people in my contacts when I need to make a call.
