Is vocaloid used like a VST/plugin? Is it possible to use it with Reason? :?:

Yeah, Vocaloid 2 comes with a plugin version. Dunno about 3. It's stripped down in comparison to the standalone, but the super cool thing is that you can type out the syllables you want it to sing and then play them directly with a keyboard; each new key press plays the next syllable.
I want to make some shitgaze with super-drenched reverb Gumi on vocals. Bet it'd work just fine.

also pocaloid is the shit but don't ever mention that you have it on any kind of Vocaloid enthusiast forum or board unless you want to be eaten alive

Yeah vocaloid 2 should be fine, i haven't used it with reason, only ableton, but i don't see why it wouldn't work.

THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I WANT TO DO. Haha.

SO you guys are telling me Vocaloid 2 exists both as a plugin, as well as a stand alone program?

Regardless, I think I fucked up buying Reason :picard: I just really really really like the layout, though.

As far as I know, there isn't a plugin version for Vocaloid 3 (what I use), but shifting tracks isn't too much of a hassle (export master, insert into miku, export miku, return to reason). If you want to jump straight into it, I can get you a link to the torrent I used that's V3 editor and all the voice libraries.

Those videos are Jesus. :omg:

I think I found a good torrent, thank you for the offer though. I downloaded it (it's 17GB!), now I just need to install it and hope it's all a-ok.

Is there a cheat sheet out there for typing the phonetic stuff out? Like, I can't get Miku to say the "su" in sugar.

as in it doesn't sound right? sugar in Romaji is 'shugaa', 'shu' sounds the way you would want 'su' to sound in this situation. you probably don't need the extended 'a' in vocaloid though, you can just drag the 'ga' note out.

i don't have a cheat sheet but i'd suggest learning the basics of Japanese phonetics, it's quite simple because there's basically one pronunciation per syllable and a pretty limited number of syllables.
once you get how the system works it's really straightforward to put english words into Romaji so it's at least decipherable when you play back the vocaloid tracks.

For a little help, here's the basic sound table with the romaji:
Image

note: vowels have different pronunciations, so here's a quick primer
a = "ah"
i = "ee"
u = "oo"
e = "ay"
o = "oh"

There are some vocaloids that actually have english voice packs too. Here's a table you can refer to for those:
