Vinyl Collections & Trading

I can't imagine there aren't a few folks on ILF who don't collect and/or trade vinyl.

Anybody here feel like talking about their favorite records?

I've been spinning Possessed's Seven Churches a lot recently, but I'm looking for Cursed Vinyl.
Lost some of my collection during a rehearsal space/loft move.

Let's talk vinyl people!

Just ended up selling a good hunk of mine over the weekend. I love collecting records when I can.

The last record I picked up was Boris' Praparat on their tour, cause it was the cheapest I'd seen it for sale

Just got Greyfolded in the mail -- the packaging puts every other vinyl to shame, ever (save perhaps Rock Dream)

I'm shooting for getting Flying Lotus's new album on Vinyl when it drops in October. Other than that, I think the newest thing I got was one of the Table of the Elements drone vinyl.

Black Talk - Charles Earland
The Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus - Spirit
Ricochet - Tangerine Dream
Wish You Were Here (Half speed master) - Pink Floyd

There can be alot to do over pressings as far as cost is concerned although everyone's ears are different. The more expensive press, usually the first press, does not always sound as good as a later press as there is often more money for a second press, if there is one. Country of press is also really big as well. British and Japanese presses are more expensive because they "are higher quality/sound better."

The Bizarre presses of Zappa LP's I think sound better than the Reprise 2nd presses. Although I like the 2nd press of Led Zeppelin two better than the first, but the opposite is true for Led Zeppelin 4. I have a first press of Dark Side of the Moon and I'd say that it sounds identical to the later presses although it is worth more, I have three Dark Side LP's.

If I had a dollar fore every time I heard someone say "I'm looking for the first press" or similar at the Record Store I worked at, all I would have to do is sit there and look pretty. The truth is most people cannot afford those first presses that they're looking for, or they won't justify teh purchase when they see how much the price tag really is. I had this one customer who only bought sealed LP's, he said he had never listened to Dark Side of the Moon because he was waiting for a sealed copy and that he thought it wouldn't be too expensive, LOL.

I have the entire Jimi Hendrix vinyl collection including a few rarities. My misuses uncle has every Beatles album you could ever both stereo and mono versions. Very jealous. All original pressings. Worth a fortune. Plus a lot of them on quadrophonic 8 track cartridge that he plays on occasion. The white album in quadrophonic is quite an experience.

Already some amazing stuff mentioned here.
Anybody have any old thrash vinyl they'd be willing to trade or sell?

You bastard, that's awesome.

Dopesmoker is one of my fave records to spin....although I don't have the new one.
My HoF collection gets a flogging....as does my modest Clutch assortment.

Kylesa's Static Tensions is awesomeness as well.

Was tempted to pick up some Eagle Twin When I ordered, but I gotta watch the budget.

I have just this year started collecting. I'm really enjoying the blur 180g reissues, as well at a couple 12" singles by them. Their B-sides are as good as their album cuts.

Just got the Music on Vinyl release of Mr. Bungle 'California' for my girlfriends birthday. Really looking forward to spinning it for the first time.

I love the somewhat recent masses of Mono 180g reissues, i.e. Van Dyke Parks' "Song Cycle" and Randy Newman's first album. I REALLY like nice mono mixes, Pet Sounds, SMiLE. The more dense it is the better it sounds in mono imo.

I've recently started collecting a lot of Harry Nilsson's releases. Really waiting for a Demon Days reissue though.

My roommate has a copy, it's great!

I've got a pretty small collection, I should take count soon, probably around 60-70.

Electric Wizard - Time to Die
Earth - Primitive and Deadly

My favorites:
Bongripper - Satan Worshiping Doom Metal
Sleep - Dopesmoker (Southern Lord, Indica color)
Bloodbath - Resurrection Through Carnage (pic disc)
Funeral Mist Box Set - EP and both albums
Xasthur/Nortt Split 12" on clear vinyl
