Hello there mostly men of ILF.

Do you understand that goodness that comes from sleeping outside, away from all the hustle, bustle, and hulabuloo of urban life?

Yeah? Awesome! Me too. And I want a hammock. But in the age of excess information, quality reviews are few and far between.

Your thoughts?

I used one of those Hennessy hammocks for some 200ish nights on bike tours before I switched to tarptents and now poncho tarps with 1/8" torso length sleeping pads for my gram-weeny hiking exploits. Lemme tell ya, crawling into your hammock every night sure does feel mighty fine. Make sure to insulate beneath you, either with sleeping pad or an underquilt. Pretty awesome to just hop up a hill anywhere and have a world of great spots, but it kind of sucked to be rolling through the middle of deserts and plains and feel a little shelterless (having not yet learned of the ways of tarp pitching).

I dislike camping for the following reasons

1. Allergies
2. The ground is hard
3. bugs
4. I fucking hate bugs
5. There is no air conditioning outside
6. I don't drink anymore and it's no longer fun to camp now
7. Bugs suck my dick
8. Bugs
9. Seriously fucking bugs guys. I hate them so god damn much.
10. I have bad allergies oh and I hate bugs

I recommend that you bring your own bear.

That way if you get attacked by a bear, your bear can fight the other bear.

Jwar....don't come camping if you visit Australia.

Personally, I love the shit out of camping and don't go anywhere near often enough.

We use tents due mosquitoes and tropical disease, so it is mostly air mattresses rocked on our family trips.
But if I go with mates, I usually try and opt for those army style, fold out cots.
Really comfortable and they keep you that critical distance off the ground to avoid freezing/overheating.

I love camping but I hate bugs. But I can look past the bugs cause its nice to be in nature. Its been a very long time though, we should organize an ILF camping trip.

Yeah bugs can make being outside miserable even if it is otherwise really beautiful. Hiking in the desert mountains is really nice because you don't have to worry about getting rained on the whole time or getting swarmed by mosquito clouds. Just silence and clear skies. (And sometimes no water)

yeah i hate most bugs too and FUCKING HATE SPIDERS, but there are some bugz i'm cool w/, and i do like going tent camping once in a while. but this old man's guilty of the air mattress. and when it's hot as fuck outside it isn't fun...

last time i went was to a riverside campground that let people rent canoes and had it cleared that it was ok for booze while boating. buddy of mine had to tell me to EYZ my trunks after one of our drunk wrecks.

afterwards i got to fall asleep in a hammock cuddling an awesome hot chick. man i wish that was what i was doing right now...


then our second night a massive storm hit. people running the campground were going through telling everyone they should pack up and go home if they could / didn't want to go through with it. my gang all stuck around. it was actually a fun experience, though all our gear was pretty gross when we loaded up and headed home the next day. it did make it a more memorable experience though, so i'm actually glad it happened.

I usually camp with just a swag and a backpack with fishing gear, mess kit, flint, knife, towel and a 2 piece .22. Make things easy if we're hiking or moving around. If I know we're staying in one place for a week or more I don't even bother with a swag, just a mosquito net and a stretcher.

Other mates I go away with usually take a bit more stuff than me but I don't mind, whatever people need to feel comfortable outdoors.

Get some surplus army blankets just in case you need to be both hot and itchy.

I love camping! I really don't have any reccomendations about a hammock, though. What're using it for? If you're looking for a light-weight camping solution, why not get a bivy sack? They're super light, and pair well with pads and sleeping bags.

I would totally be down for a west-coast ILF camping trip

Eyyyyyy if we do, there's this state park in Calavaras we could hit up. Unless we're talking middle of nowhere camping.

I couldn't tell you to be perfectly honest! It's the north side of Yarwhal crossing up the Clyde river in NSW. From what we could tell no-one had taken a boat up there in a LONG time (There are spots where you have to get out and carry the boat over rocks and shallow areas) but we just putted up the river fishing and camped on the banks of the river. There's no campsites or clearings, you have to make your own/make do.
