Building a new Pedal Board - suggestions please

I'm about to build a new pedal board... And due to a suggestion, it will be made of steel (mostly).

I'm going to try use light gauge steel all around or this thing would weigh a ton. Nobody wants extra weight to carry around.

I'm going to use a light tube for the inside framing... And some other (yet to be determined) metal coverings.

More than likely to have neutrik jacks and a recessed power adapter ( if I can find one that's not hosing me for $35 ) .

Now I ask you... What is a "MUST HAVE" feature that you would like on a board?

maybe you have an idea that I might use, and have never thought of before.

Also feel free to tell me what is NOT desirable.

Steel. I'm feeling I may regret this build... But I'm a steel worker by trade... So at least it's not building a pedal. Those guys are geniuses!! ;)

Anyways. Input on good and bad features. Please and thank you.

Pedal to the metal!!!

There aren't too many features that I need on a board other than the pedals stay in place.
If I were building one using metal, I'd probably use aluminum though.

If I use aluminum, then I would actually need to drop $300 on the appropriate spool gun for my welder. And I don't think it worth it, today, for this project.

I completely get it. And I'm second thinking this.

I don't think I'll go this route.... 100%.

For what? Dont want to sound simple minded here, but, I'm not sure what requires charging..... Your iPhone?

When I think USB charging.... That's all that comes to mind. :P

I would also suggest using aluminum. Much much lighter. As for welding--no need. Try using these http://www.alumiweld.comThey work friggin great. Also, as for features I would say built in riser for the back line of pedals.

I've got a couple of USB power lights on my board, plus iPhone iPad and/or cheapo droid tablet for recording or generating sounds, plus powering a midi keyboard that's triggering stuff on the iPhone.

A mini surge strip that works with your power supply or any special wall warts. A spot to hide your power supply.
Since iit is steel, a sturdy handle or even a spot to clip on a carry strap would be nice for moving it around. Mine just stays at home, so I wanted good rubber feet so I don't kick it around the smooth concrete in my basement.
