Seriously, is this for real?
What the fuck are they thinking?

Yeah, that's sad news.

It's not surprising. YouTube's been heading in that direction (the direction of money) for years. Disappointing.

This will mark the rise of vimeo, mark my words. They're still free, just as easy to use, and they don't have censorship in the video content.

Yeah I can see them exploding in popularity pretty soon. I also love the no censorship thing. Its way better

I'd hear about this yesterday. I've been looking for an alternative since then. Is Vimeo the consensus best bet? It'd be cool to get the whole music cmmunity to pull thier content and jump ship en masse.

Any filmmaker duders I know use Vimeo and love it. I've always thought it was a better service, just didn't have the mass of content Youpube has. If we could get Excane, Kayzer, etc to jump ship with their demo vids that would be awesome for us.

edit:
Just remembered that to get all the bells and whistles as a content provider you probably need a subscription. So that could be a barrier. The free basic plan is probably enough for most people, though.

This doesn't surprise me, especially when you consider their HD ads load almost instantly while a low-def video has to buffer every other second.

Gotta pay ISPs somehow. Sucks. Vimeo is great. Layout is a lot less flashy and optimal video uploading and playback. No compression.

Blip also has some pretty decent stuff.

I only really watch maybe 3-4 exclusive Youtube channels, the rest tend to upload to other websites.

From my understanding Youtube is planning to run into a paid subscription service (for the music side?) and most indie labels are refusing the terms, because they're bullshit. Because indie labels refuse the terms youtube is planning on pulling all their content.

Still tl;dr: soon you may have to pay to watch only shitty music on YouTube
