Band merch

I've been terrible at creating consumables for my band since I've played music. Currently we have a great tshirt that our friend screen prints whenever we need more. However, I'm talking to other artist who do great art and I wouldn't wanna bastardize their abilities asking them to stick to the realms of layers. I also won't ask my friend to do more than 2 layers considering the deal he gives us.

I see a lot of clothing with photos on them. Really professional. A lot of street wear. I was wondering if anyone is aware of a place to source this or if this is possible on the DIY scale of things. I don't even know if the process or type has a name.

Example

Anyone know how to get this done?

Instead of shirts with photos, you should make up a bunch of "I went to a Navi show and all I got was this lousy t-shirt" shirts. A timeless classic.

Nuclear War Now makes awesome, detailed shirts and they use something called discharge printing. It's totally great looking stuff.....

i love this shirt.
In addition to discharge printing, see about laser printing. You can get stuff like this with laser prints.

discharge printing is basically screen printing but it uses ink that bleaches the actual fabric of the shirt, yeah?

i used to work for a screen printing joint they used to do stuff like this all the time
they just split the photo into lots of layers/different shades then round and round on the printing machine

its pretty cool ill be honest...

any screen print joint should be able to do it fine
