New to Fuzz … too many choices!!!

Hey all,

I have just recently had my eyes opened to the world of "Fuzz" and a few friends on forums recommend EQD/BAT fanatically!

My current rig consists of various mahogany body, maple neck, neck thru and set neck guitars. My amp is a Splawn Quick Rod with two Splawn 2x12 cabinets loaded with Celestion 65 watt Creamback speakers.

I am mainly a metal guy but also love things like Kyuss, Orange Gobling, Sabbath, etc.

I really like guitar tones from bands like Disfear, Entombed, Tragedy. Sounds to me like a slightly distorted amp pushed over the top with something fuzzy. I am wondering which of the hundreds of fuzz pedals might get me there with my current rig.

Thanks in advanced for your input. I am so overwhelmed with all the demos I and videos I have watched that I feel like I'm trying to sail the Pacific with no compass!

Here are some tone examples I really like

Hi! :hello:
This is technically the only sub forum that ISNT for gear stuff, but that's OK, haha.
The great thing about fuzz it that there's LOTS of it out there.
Honestly the most fun part for me is trying new stuff out.
What works for other people might not work for you, and the other way around.
I'm gonna be honest, I'm not knowledgeable enough about what you want to make a straight recommendation.

My advice?
Read threads, see what looks neat, and keep your eyes peeled on the B/S/T.
Buy something and try it out, and if it doesn't work out, there's probably someone out there who will want it!
I am personally a really big fan of smallsound/bigsound Fuck OD/mini and the Dr. Scientist The Elements.
You can read some cool stuff in their respective subforums, listed under "hosted pedal builders".

Yeah I figured this would be a better spot to host since there are so many brands available as opposed to putting the same post into multiple areas.

Thanks for the reply. I will just need to do what you mentioned and start grabbing stuff and selling off the things I don't like.

Ahh, thanks for that. I kept editing them but couldn't find the right mix of what to delete to make the vids work.

Cheers.

Yup, tha is true. My thoughts though are that after checking out a few fuzz demos, the sound is very close to what I am trying to accomplish.

Some of the pedals I have looked at are:
Black Arts Coven (Pharaoh/Black Forest in one pedal)
Black Arts LSTR
Black Arts Quantum Mystic
Blackout Effectors Twosome (Musket/Fixed Fuzz in one pedal)
Earthquaker Devices Zap Machine
Dunwich Amplification Wizard and Volt Thrower

The Black Forest and Quantum Mystic on their own have a very "crusty" feel to them.

I'm pretty sure that the IdiotBox Dungeon Master is based on the HM2, and it sounds awesome!

Can't go wrong with BAT if you're trying to bring the heavy. I've got a pharaoh & revelation superbass on my board and they just rule. Just recently scored a Black Forest in trade, as well.

Nice! Pulling the trigger now on the Coven from Prymaxe. They are running 15% off so had to do it. Has both the Pharaoh and Black Forest in one housing, plus I got the one with the red and black housing which just looks more evil!

LOL! One thing I love about all these pedals are the graphics. Being a designer I love to see what these companies come up with.

Here it is:

Looks like I got the last one they had in this color scheme as now they only have the "wish list" option.

Very excited.

Badass. The Coven is rad.

If you can, though, I'd advise not buying from Prymaxe as often as possible. Shady company.

Oh really? Never dealt with the before. What have you experienced? I certainly appreciate any kind of heads up.

Well there's a massive thread about it here:
http://ilovefuzz.com/viewtopic.php?f=14 ... 7&start=75

But, long story short, they do their best to cut into builder's profit margins in order to sell pedals at the prices that they do. And there's a few builders who post here who have had super lame experiences with the company, and as much as "buy local" is a stupid concept on the internet I prefer not to buy pedals from places that treat my interweb cohabitants poorly.

Good choice with the Coven! But, as DoS said. Prymaxe is kinda shitty. Buy direct from Mark next time if you can.
