Ok So i was just curious on what you guys would do if this happened to you. Cause i hate giving people bad feedback but what the fuck.
Ok so I ordered a Total Spacks on Ebay like 2 weeks ago. I tried to get ahold of him like three times when it wasn't showing up and he wouldn't get back to me. I just wanted to know if he shipped it or not to keep an eye on it. So finally i had to get ebay to email him and he emailed me right back and said that the mail must be running late. I finally just got it. Opened it up the lights are taped up. The knobs aren't the same. And theres a little hole in it for some reason. It looks like the've been gigging in Nam.

In addition to the excellent advice provided above, post his address here so we can go get him.

You already have contact with Ebay if I understood correctly and you needing to contact them for the seller to contact you only makes your case stronger I guess.
It sucks when this kind of shit happens, good luck dude!

Sorry. I already took the tape off and cleaned it up. I should have taken a picture but i didn't. I plugged it in and it sounds awesome especially with my Rams head running through it. There was also this weird brown goop on it and looked like someone brushed there hair with the velcro on the bottom. It was shipped in a box with no packaging. Just a loose pedal thrown in a box three times its size. This guys so wacked. I emailed him about it. I don't know. I gave up on trying to understand people along time ago. Ive only given negative feedback once before and its even hard to give it to this guy but someone needs to know before they buy something from this dude. Thats why i like this forum so much cause when something is off everyone pulls together and figures the shit out or runs them out the room.

There is something weird with the pots though. The Volume and Tone pot don't turn smooth. They have clicky pots. Like ones that would be on a Phase 100 or something. Its weird. Never seen it before. I emailed aen about it to see if he used those.

You could always leave "Neutral" feedback with something like: "Item not as described, packed poorly, shipped slowly and no communication."

You did everything right....until you did everything wrong.
If something arrives in condition different than in photos/description you have all kinds of protection as a buyer, assuming you paid through paypal and the transaction wasn't completed outside of ebay. But by attempting to "clean up" the item or altering it you forfeit what is essentially the most effective trump card at getting things sorted out; which mandates the seller take action and allow return/exchange the pedal or offer partial/full compensation for it being misrepresented and any repairs/overhaul that is needed should you agree to keep it.
Never assume. Always ask, and if you aren't getting satisfactory answers/results then advance the claim process.
FWIW, Stepped-pots are common in mic pre-amps...and as you mentioned the Phase 100 has one...also a bunch of other cool pedz like the Way Huge Angry Troll, T-Pedals Super Hoffman, Telenordia/Tortenmann TF-1, D*A*M Ezekiel...others I'm sure.
Their advantage is a fixed/more precise repeatability of settings. The disadvantage is limited fine-tuning. They also make quality mode selector switches.

Cool thanks for the info on the pots. I didn't know about them. Well i plugged this thing in and it played fine so i just said fuck ill keep it. Cleaned it up. The insides look ok and nothing messed with so ill just play it. This thing is super versatile. Super cool.

UNless you want to return it, don't be a douche and leave negative feedback. Either you're happy with the purchase or not.

I dunno man. There's a difference between being prepared to accept the product and being happy with the purchase. Shipping (time and cost), condition of the product vs description, communication... They are all part of the purchase experience.

In the days before eBay was a complete dick to their sellers I would've been right there with you goroth, but with the way they run things now I'd leave neutral feedback and explain as much as possible in 197 characters.
Nowadays unless I either never get what I paid for, it's not what I purchased, or it's non-functional I don't leave bad feedback. And even then I only leave bad feedback if the seller refuses to try and make the situation better. They don't even let sellers leave negative feedback for buyers anymore...
