pedal demo video's.....

What do you want from a pedal demo? Who gives good demo? etc.

I think a good demo might be a looped instrument, with a going over of the features with no talking unless necessary to point out a feature etc. while the demo'er twiddles knobs. And maybe there's more than one loop to help showcase the strengths, and likewise to highlight the weaknesses? I'm not sure what the looped line should be to appeal to most listeners though. And then maybe a short segment where the demo'er jams, maybe using other pedals to give some more insight?

Wat do?

No talking for four minutes before playing.
Run some bass and synth through it, even if it's just a quick thing.

Strengths + Weaknesses are a big plus, but the caveat there is that they're relatively subjective.

The rest of the signal chain is pretty essential information, but it doesn't have to be talked about in the video--can be left to the description.

The biggest thing for me, I think, is being able to see the pedal settings clearly.

The best videos edit in text explaining the details of the recording. Short of that, a closeup of the pedal so we can see the settings as you tweak them. Then just a quick shoutout of the axe and amp you used.

I like the demo structure of Just Nick. Starts off with several minutes of playing and then goes over in detail what the knobs do. The only thing he really doesn't do is weaknesses but since the demos are really a sales tool I understand why he doesn't include that.

I like to hear the full range of different instruments to hear how they react. Tonez can sound and feel very different on a bass low B compared to 24th fret highest G, same with keys and guitar.

I was just going to post about how much I like Just Nick's demos. The funny thing is that he does the on-camera explanation just about better than anyone else I've seen - when he starts rambling on a tangent, he reins it in, and it comes off as endearing more than anything else. In typical, I feel that most people who demo don't speak nearly as eloquently.

I'm on the fence about hearing pedals solo'd versus in a mix - I think a combination can be good. However, one thing I hate is when demos show pedals with extra effects on the whole time, like a little reverb or delay to fatten things up. I mean, I'm fine hearing that in small doses, but when I'm checking out a demo, it's because I want to hear the pedal in question as much as possible. Stacking and extra effects are fine as long as it's in clearly delineated (and relatively short) ways.

he does my favorite demo's too. although sometimes he talks more than he plays....but its ok cause he has a very affable nature with the camera.....and sometimes the pedals he demo's have pretty unique features that take awhile to explain. and even when he doesn't understand he still gives it his best shot :)

No talking ever. Otherwise it's a forum post, except not as good as a forum post because I have to listen to it in real time.
