i've never been, but every time i see scotland or england in a movie or made for tv flick i see (IMO) hideous wallpaper. which is apparently embraced. what's the deal? anyone know what the scenario is w/ that? vintage obsession? intentional gaudiness? inexplicable indifference?

I never really thought about that I visited London for a week and yes, I remember copious amounts wallpaper. This is making me want some weird 70's style wallpaper in my studio.

i don't have anything against *nice* looking wallpaper, even dig just putting it on one wall of a room instead of each. but what i've been seeing on the screen is all ugly as hell, usually looking old too but not some vintage cool far as i can tell...

Its probably not going to happen, doing home improvement shit is not my bag. I never bothered to finish painting my studio. Maybe that explains the wallpaper in the UK. Too drunk to be bothered with painting.

Wallpaper has been around for a long time.
You CANNOT paint over wall paper with ease.
Wallpaper sucks to remove.
But you can put wallpaper over old wallpaper.
I think.
Either way I think eating baked beans for breakfast is the answer.

i'm talking about frequently seeing hideous, gaudy, old-looking wallpaper, often on just one wall of a room, in flats in the UK.
if covering wallpaper with other wallpaper is a simple option why are they sticking with this *ahem* "shite?"
it comes across more as if it's liked or if it's not worth the effort to remove or even cover.

which films are you talking about?
if they are older films or meant to be set in that in that era, then retro wallpaper is an easy way to dress the set to date it.
most flats/houses/buildings have plain white walls, i would prefer that they do have 1970s psychedelic wallpaper.

sherlock is what spawned the question. been around since trainspotting.

ah no, just checked and its set in the modern day, well, TV version of the modern day

if you want awesome wallpaper i suggest 60s/70s italian giallo films, the wallpapers they have in those are works of art

there was probably a big boom in DIY and wallpaper in the 60s/70s, and for a lot of people they may have never bothered to change it
