Maybe old hat question, what do you wear when playing a gig?

You know, do you just wear your normal everyday clothing. Or maybe you have a schtick type of outfit? Do you put on a persona or just jam with your room full of friends?
I pretty much just wear whatever from my closet and try to have as little interaction with the audience as possible.

I only wear what I'd normally wear. And 9 times out of 10, I kinda wish other people would do the same (I expect to be in the minority here...it'd be interesting to see a poll!)
I get people who are into the visual aspect to their performance and see that as part of the creative package. But trying to look cool, like putting on some fake rock star or scene clothes is the douchiest, most hateable thing to me.
But if I was in a band with certain creative visual goals, I'd consider it.
And I get how dressing up like an attention whore or putting on clown masks gets you noticed. I get it. But I shit it. On it.

I always thought something like a uniform of plain clothes would be a good aesthetic for a band.
No fancy costumes, but the same kind of color pallet/style for everyone.

Kinda like Devo....i don't know why, but for me there music just overpowered their goofy getups.

A sock.
But seriously, I prefer wearing the Kurt Cobain "whatever I was able to grab out of the ymca lost & found" look to say, Manowar.
Or 1970s Who. Or Avenged Sevenfold.
My thing is pretending like the audience cant see me. Which they cant, because I don't gig. For now...
Costumes and visual gimmicks are kind of boring and hackneyed at this point. It works for KISS & RHCP...AND GWAR. Not for a soloist.

I like to wear pants but sometimes I don't.
Same goes for when I'm playing a gig.

I just checked this band out for the first time. I don't get the appeal, they fucking suck!

Suit and bow tie. Or normal tie... depending on my mood.

isnt it the same as having nice designs on your pedals? all part of the presentation?
i dont dress to fit in any tribe in real life anyway, but i think it can depend on the style of music, putting on a bit of a show and paying attention to the visual aspect
the worst thing is people doing laptop shows and all you see is the lid of the laptop and the top of their head for an hour while they press a few buttons
(and probably just pressed the play button while they are browsing ebay and watching porn)

i used to and still too often think that. but once in a while you'll find someone who's actually having fun controlling and manipulating what they've created, even if it's all on a laptop.
does help if there's something else to look at though.

Most of my bands we just play in whatever clothes we felt like throwing on that day.
In one of my old bands we all wore black jeans (that we bought specifically for this) and white t-shirts. The singer/guitarist wore a gray t-shirt. I'm pretty sure that nobody noticed that we were doing that.
