Dano French Toast vs Joyo Voodoo Ultimate Octave?

Any one have experience in this area?
I'm looking to replace my french toast and keep reading conflicting reports on the Joyo. Such as - same circuit as the Dano, same circuit as the Dano other than 1-2 parts that are installed backwards(?!), entirely different and generally ass-sounding.
If the two are the same, I'd rather spend the extra few dollars and give up the board real estate for the Joyo, but don't want to waste the money, however short, on a possible/likely clunker.

I know that LaoWiz (The Out Sound) over in the Shark Tank) has built Tone Machine clones. I can't speak to cheapitude, but he's a great guy to deal with.

Not cheap, but Joe Wolf at Retroman does a really nice clone:

Got one on my board and really like it. Stacks very well with other fuzz.

I have a Joyo, back when it was still the "Ultimate Octave."
Had it on the board a year or two. It's a 'it's there, not used much' that gets a particular garage-rock sound when I want it.
It's solid for a production cheapie.
Didn't A/B it with a Dano since it's been a long time since I used a Dano more than in passing.

Probably won't be as cheap as the Dano or the Joyo, but it will sound fucking amazing

The Joyo Voodoo Octave (as opposed to the old Ultimate Octave) requires only a minor mod to make it louder, check out this thread:

Btw, I've compared the (modded) Joyo with the French Toast, Joyo won.

So what about the Joyo sealed the deal? Simply the better enclosure/layout, or something sonic?

Can't speak for OP, but I've owned a bunch of the Dano minis in the past (when they were all DIRT cheap and the only dirt cheap game in town) for select reasons.
The tiny controls effectively limit variations in sound and if I'm not going to have five of them on the little proprietary board, I'd rather have a long-term form factor.
Never did break one like I thought I would though.
Joyo is cheap, sleazy, and sounds decent given the circuit it is.

I also hate the tiny knobs on the Danelectro pedals.
There was a $50 Foxx Tone machine clone in the BYOC S/S/T forum a few days ago (a week ago?) if that helps at all...

Yea, at current Joyo prices I'd buy a homebuilt first.
I got on the train when it was $28 shipped.

I didn't like my Joyo, but I figured it was just because the Foxx circuit wasn't for me. It sounded too smooth and distortiony. I want my octave fuzzes to fuck a nun (consensually).
