Safest payment method?

What's the safest way to do a transaction? I know with money orders, it's possible that your bank will accept them and even credit you the money, then take it back when they figure out the money order isn't legitimate. Personal check can be cancelled. Is Paypal the safest? Seems like maybe it is?
This is for an off-forum transaction, where the ILF Ban Hammer has no powers. Amplifier deal, so higher stakes than a pedal. I'm the seller. But I want the buyer to know that he's protected too, like in case I sent him a box of rocks.
Opinions?

paypal purchase transaction is safest for the buyer. as a seller though if you're worried about getting screwed w/ them claiming they never received what they purchased should send them a paypal invoice w/ info on the item & be sure to do the shipment w/ tracking & insurance.

yeah, its 3.5% fee to paypal but less stress for both of you.
make sure you post to the address that comes with the paypal email (also listed online with the payment)
it will say something like 'verified, safe to send'
and post with tracking/confirmation

i believe a certified check, or postal money order are safe.
safest is escrow where money is put into an account with the escrow service, then you ship the product, once the product arrives the money is transferred into your account. i've done this a couple times with some multi-thousand dollar international transactions, and each time we were able to dictate the terms..i.e. the buyer has x amount of time/days to make sure item is a-ok etc. There are fee's involved, but if its a big ticket item that shouldn't be a major concern for the buyer to pay.
edit: i've been screwed over by paypal as buyer and as seller on multiple occasions. but i still use it.....

Certified check/PMO can be forged. You have to hold a significant amount of time to be sure it clears.
PMO you can generally cash at your local post office and eliminate this, but I'm a don't leave the house unless emergency guy these days.
