Just booked a flight, 2+ weeks in Delhi.
I have no idea what I'm getting myself into.
Leaving tomorrow.
Whoa.
ORIGINAL POST
I have a bunch of PTO and I'm thinking of going on vacation for a week or so in the spring, but I don't know where to go.
I'd like to go abroad because I've barely been out of the US (or the state).
Montreal is on my list but I could probably do that on a long weekend or something.
My former professor is going to India in that time period so that's a possibility, but I still have to talk that out with her.
The natural landscapes of Iceland and remote parts of the UK intrigue me.
I've heard Germany is pretty awesome but I'd probably have to go with someone who spoke German, eh? Which could be feasible.
So ILF, what travel destinations do you recommend for a naive & young white American who can only speak English?
(I'm not against staying in the US, but branching out would be awesome)

Germany is great and most germans speaks english very well - that would definitely not be a problem. Go to Berlin - it's awesome and cheap.

A week isn't a whole lot of time. Heading abroad can be a lot of fun, but there's plenty of mileage to be had out of the rest of the US, too.

I think I kind of agree with this. Go somewhere that you may not necessarily normally get a chance to that's close by. You don't wanna spend precious time traveling.

More importantly, what are you trying to get out of your vacation?

If I don't use any more PTO, or very little, until the spring it would be very possible for me to do two weeks. That is something I'll keep in mind.

I just feel very naive to the world. I want to experience another/other culture(s), give myself greater perspective of the world and possibly my life.
Discovering somewhere completely foreign to me, an exercise in independence I guess.
Also, seeing pretty things and eating tasty food.
& using trains would be cool.

Go check out the Southwest.
Or play tummysticks with Behnders out in the Yarea.
