Mr Black Tunnelworm & Double Chorus users: a question

I got to try these out on bass at a local shop today, and they sounded gorgeous, but I encountered an unusual problem: they were both so bassy, there was a significant volume boost when I clicked 'em on.

Has anyone else encountered this issue? Are there any trimpots inside for volume or tone that could help take the overall engaged volume down to unity (or even a smidge above)?

I actually had the opposite situation with the Double Chorus, there was a slight volume drop when I kicked it on with my bass. I ended up selling it a couple of weeks ago, so I can't tell you if there is a trimpot you can adjust.

Huh. Interesting! I wonder if it was the rig I was playing through at the shop. I grabbed a bass off the rack, and plugged it into a Kustom. I guess the next step would be to bring my actual equipment down to see how it sounds.

Not related, but I'd be interested in a detailed appraisal of the Tunnelworm.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it had something to do with the rig.
I designed both units to be unity, minus the crazy shit that happens when frequencies cancel out.
There aren't any internal trimmers or controls, just what's on the outside. And maybe a lil somethin silly written on the backing plate.

I'd say it's Empire since there were Kustoms there...

Ding ding ding ding! We have a winner! The answer was Empire, for 200! Also, B Sharp has shut down - there's a comic book shop there now.

Ah, thanks for the input, Jack! It was a pretty bassy bass rig to begin with. I'll have to bring my amp down for a proper comparison, then. They both sounded awesome, by the way. I'll have to see if the store will let me unscrew the backs to read the secret messages within...

Ah, didn't realize B Sharp was gone, I hadn't been there in a year and change. Sucks, they did good work.

I'll go waste some time at Empire soon, sounds awesome!

Wait what? B-Sharp is gone? :(

Empire seems to have really stepped up their game with desirable stuff recently. Not that the old inventory wasn't desirable...Just nobody could afford your '56 mint Strat.

Yeah, B-Sharp is no more. Domenick is carrying on the legacy by doing repairs and setups at Machines With Magnets. The storefront's been vacant pretty much for the last half of the summer & start of fall - the comic book shop (Multiverse) had their grand opening last weekend. It was pretty nice, actually. The space feels oddly smaller, but better set up for comics.

Empire has totally stepped up its game - not the least of all due to all of the effects they carry now. And it looks like they're going to be a Moog dealer soon. I'm gonna try those Moog minis out up close and personal!

I still can't afford all of the sweet Ric 4001s they've got, though... >kicks rock glumly<

My friend Justin plays 4001's exclusively. He just got a black one to match his primary blonde.
Holy hell do those things rip. I've always been a P-bass type dude, but my wicked wandering eye has strayed...
I know what I'm getting next now. In black, of course.

Yeah, I was bummed to hear B-Sharp closed, such an awesome local shop. The couple of times I've been to Empire, my wallet broke out with an inferiority complex and slipped into a deep depression.

Rics and Mr. Black pedals, an excellent match both visually and sonically!

I think that (especially since B Sharp closed), Empire's been looking to expand their niche - I go in to talk pedals with Mike all the time, and they've been bringing in a lot more affordable stuff lately. Of course, they still have plenty of unobtanium, but they're not afraid to stand up for their cheaper choices.

And I've gotta second the sentiment for Rics - so incredibly good. Hey Jack, maybe Empire will give you a deal on one of theirs for some more pedals! Shipping to Oregon would probably be a little pricey, though.
