Queer Friendly Cities in the Southern US?

Maybe this is a weird question to ask here?
My wife and I are thinking of taking a trip in the spring with our daughter. We live in New England and want to go somewhere warm. We're a two-mom family with a toddler. We want to go to a city where they won't throw rotten tomatoes at us.
We like good street food and nice places to walk around.
Any recommendations?

Seconded. Plus, it's actually a pretty nice city to walk around.

Savannah, GA?
Carrboro, NC? (Not even a city, nor very exciting)
Miami, FLA?
Key West, FLA?

Charleston is really nice for walking and has great food (though I don't really think street food is a thing in the south), as is/does Savannah.

Most of the big college towns will probably be ok. Austin was the first one off the top of my head

Asheville, NC is a cool city and is pretty open to all types of people imaginable. There's lots of fun stuff to do there, cool shops, mountains, biltmore, etc.. There's also cool stuff for kids.
Raleigh, NC is a great place to take a toddler (I visit there alot, because I have family there). There is a big park there (I forget the name) that is filled with jungle gyms and has a train, bumper boats, a merry-go-round, etc. It's like a kid paradise.
Really, most southern cities are going to be rather queer friendly, don't be misled by what you see on television. I live in a very conservative area in a very conservative city in the southeast, and still, I'll occassionally see something like two high school aged boys walking through Wal Mart (of all places) holding hands and no one bothers them. We still have our gay pride parades and such down here too.

Austin also has the bats departing from the Ann W. Richards Congress Avenue Bridge, and Bracken Cave. I've never been, but Austin is definitely on my bucket list for those (and other reasons) - good to hear there are other good reasons to go.

I would definitely vote for Asheville, NC - I have a friend who moved there (from the Northeast, no less) for that very reason (well, that wasn't the ONLY reason, but it was definitely a factor). Since moving there, she's joined the local roller derby team and writes on Facebook about how awesome it down there almost every week.
Plus, as it's been pointed out, MOOG! If I recall correctly, you can tour the facility and even try a bunch of their stuff out.
