Electronic Cigarettes? (seriously, not spam)

I know there was a topic about e-cigarettes about this time last year that started as spam. Instead of bumping an old topic...

Does anyone here use e-cigarettes? What brand do you use, and where do you get them? Do you refill your own, or buy refills?

I am especially interested in advice from any long time smokers who were able to switch from regular cigarettes to electronic ones.

I have decided to try to make the switch. I would love to stop altogether, but that isn't happening. I am having dental surgery on Tuesday to get a couple of implants-- hopefully my last major procedure for a long time. Come February, I'll have about ten grand in my teeth over the course of about 18 months. I would like to not have tobacco stained teeth anymore.

Yesterday, I bought a couple of disposables-- a Blu and an Njoy-- and I started using them today. Blu seems ok, but tastes a bit of vanilla, which I don't like. Njoy is much better, and feels right. They're expensive, though, coming in at right about the same price as real cigarettes (~$32/carton here in Georgia). I'll probably buy a 5 pack of the Njoy to get through my initial healing, and then explore other options after that.

So... anyone care to share their experience?

Mike

I bought my girlfriend a "Premium" brand starter kit. It was like $25 off groupon (http://www.groupon.com/deals/gg-premium-ecig-kit)

They're not like actually like rettes, and don't taste like rettes, so you might as well buy the goofy flavors and just think of them as strawberry nicotine dispensers. But since part of the addiction is the physical holding something>putting it into yr mouth>sucking>blowing (:p ) they're good for that and your nic fix.

Thanks guys. I know they will not taste like cigarettes, but I think they might be close enough for me to start to quit. I'm not too interested in fruity or other flavors. I am most interested in duplicating real cigarettes as much as possible. Yesterday was the first day I have not smoked an actual cigarette in about 20 years.

My surgery is tomorrow at 2:45, and I am determined to not smoke a cigarette between now and then. I doubt I will want to smoke for a few days afterwards. I turn 35 on Sunday, so it would be nice to come up with a solution between then and now.

I bet it's not a good idea to get this stuff on any... uhh... sensitive areas. When I worked at a commercial greenhouse back in the late 90s, we used nicotine foggers to kill insects. It is definitely toxic in higher concentrations. I'm not too concerned, though. I already put anti-thyroid cream on my cat twice a day, and if you get that on your skin it can really screw you up. If I do my own refills, I will just put on some gloves. And... uhh... pants.

Good luck, I hope you can kick the cigarettes. I smoked for 13 years and quit 4 years ago. Life is so much better, it smells better, taste better.

After about four or five days you'll be surprised at how little you need to smoke.

You'll want to smoke, but you won't need to. That's easier in some ways, and harder in others.

Yeah Cold Turkey is how I did it. Couldn't slow down and quit, just had to do it.

Yup.

Gotta quit again soon, actually.

Likewise. That said, I know some folks who absolutely love their E-cigs. If it's what will help you, then I'd give it a shot.

Whatever you do don't smoke e-cigs and real cigs at the same time, even if its just to cut down on real cigarettes. Could give you heart palpitation.

welp, I'm fucked...
I used the Blu kit for a while. Back on regular cigs :grumpy: Cold turkey seems to be the most effective method of quitting. Usually people I've known who used the E-cig were back on regular cigs, or became addicted to the E-cig. Worth a shot, though.

The Blu menthol disposables are good. The non disposables aren't as good.

I smoked e cigs for about 8 months. I found myself constantly puffing on it more and more as time went on. I built a huge tolerance to nicotine. Its so easy to just puff and puff. Eventually I started smoking cigarettes again but when I did, I needed/wanted to smoke like three right after another because I needed that much nicotine to get satisfied. Lately ive been vaping actual tobacco leaves which I like alot more along with smoking. I occasionally use swedish snus. I need to quit soon.

Ecigs are not a solution to quiting. If anything it makes it harder. Beware of that laboratory nicotine. That shit can be so impure and still be sold. Ive read of a test that found traces of toxins like mercury in e-juice.

I definitely know what you mean. When I first got them I smoked them a ton. Once I realized I was doing it though I forced myself not to. The trick is to not keep them on you all the time. They're in my desk drawer at home. They don't leave my desk even if I do.

They do make for a great substitute in a pinch--like a long show in an arena, or something.
