Distortion Pedals Redux

Since I am extremely tempted by Skully's Verellen Jet City, it has me wanting more distortion in mah life. I already have (and completely love) The Elements, but want to add a few more dirt pedals for the sake of impulsive and variety. Feel free to offer feedback on any I list or throw out some alternative suggestions. Toanz I like are from Mastodon, The Sword, ASG, Kylessa, Elder, High on Fire, etc etc. I am usually in D standard or drop C and like to palm mute excessively. Here's the list:

SS/BS Mini
A Rat of some kind
Catailinbread DLS MkIII
Blackout Effectors Mantra
BAT Quantum Mystic
BAT Black Forest, not really a distortion, but still on the short list

The Quantum Mystic is a no brainer if you like to palm mute. Like seriously its mind blowing how good it is for that. Abolutely the most pleased I've been in a long time with a non tube distortion.

The mini is an amazing OD and far more versatile than the Mantra and grittier than the BF. A lot better high gain tones and smoother low gains tones, if you want really low gain OD though the mantra is hard to beat.

Rat's are always a good pedal to have, I really liked the Fuzzrocious Rat Tail I tried the other week. It had the most natural sound to me.

No experience with the DLS.

You should probably just buy the Jet City. :thumb:

DLS gets boring fast, seems to only have one sound to me so if you like dimed Marshall sounds then you're on a winner but if you don't then don't bother. Not heard the QM but know it's roots and can't go wrong there. Also agree with AA everyone should own a Rat but get a clone with some extras as the stock ones don't do it for it as they are.

Thanks yall. Rat is definitely top of the list now - it's waaaaay past time I owned a Rat. Never even played one actually :picard: Recommended clones or stock models?

For sure this. Or even the Rat Tail.
I had Ryan at Fuzzrocious build me a Rat Tail in a smaller box. Diggin' the shit out of it. Definitely a good clone and totally worth it.

NOOOOOOOO! Skullys Verellen sold before I could get the cash together.

Oh well. I'm still very intrigued by this whole clean amp/dirt pedal thing. I'm really considering a Fender Superchamp x2 head - any other options in that price range I should be considering instead?

And rats. So far I really like the look of the Iron Horse and the Acid Pig (new earthbound audio shit). Is it worth the coin or should I just pick up a used Rat with the 308 or a whiteface reissue instead? And is there any overlap between the mini and rat?

Well if you're not really worried about when your pedal is going to arrive totally go with the Acid Pig.

That's pretty lame. I may try and find an actual Rat on the cheap. That or the Iron Horse if tgp starts to offload them for cheap...

Totally back the Mini and the Rat Tail/King, both sound great, are straight forward yet very tweak-able.

I'm a complete rat head. I have a fuzz face clone for differences but I almost feel like going back into duel rats, one for boost and one for heavies.

Get one of each turbo rat, early rat II, and big box.
