to make my perfect day even better, i discovered tonight that the Feds took all the money in my main bank account probably due to back taxes. this means that i have no money to pay my rent, my bills, my medication, or to ship my kitty ((((Lulu)))) to me. i really don't know what to do. if anyone has any good ideas or support please talk to me. i'm scared that i'm going to be sleeping in the streets in two weeks.

Good effing lord, man, that's horrible. Are there any decent social service agencies out there with some kind of advocacy function? That's some fucked up shit.

Call one of those IRS defense firms and see if they can take up your case?
Sorry to hear you're in a pinch. That sucks.

Hang in there Dubs, sorry to hear about your predicament. As for the "you don't need money" quote, I would like you to explain to me how this is possible. I truly am curious and am not going to judge you and your situation, but I would like to know how you can live in an industrialized country (I assume you are in the USA or Europe), eat, find housing, have a family, etc. without any money. Are you defaulting on your student loans? Are you squatting in an unused space? Again, it's your life and how you choose to live it is your deal, I would just like to know how this is accomplished.

You may or may not be able to get one, but if you do, you don't need representation to get one and having representation isn't supposed to make a difference. Basically, if you're essentialy insolvent (assets vs. obligations) but could pay a bit more in total over time than if they drove you into bankruptcy, they'll settle and you'll be fine if you keep up with the payment plan.
A friend had health issues and ignored her taxes for a couple years and was in deep shit. When she talked to the IRS people who were about to do levies and liens and stuff and sorted things out, life got better and she was better off for engaging in the process than throwing up her hands and saying "fuck it." Making payments on back taxes for the next few years isn't fun, but as you've found out, there are worse things.
That sounds like pretty sound advice.
Hang in there, DK.
